  1. Hyenas are more closely related to cats than dogs having split off from cats to form their own group, despite looking more like dogs.
Regardless, beautiful story. Thanks for sharing.

  2. I'm not a Hyena fan, but I love the babies. Hyena hierarchy is so interesting. I love that they are a female run society. I hate that they're scavengers, though. They steal important kills from endangered animals. However, they need to survive. This little one is so darn cute!! I love that he has a dog as a playmate. Just so adorable. Thank you for rescuing him and giving him a chance!! ❤

  3. I mean kudos for doing that you did but why did you raise him with so much human interaction? I kind of disagree with that. You should’ve focused on one day releasing him in the wild avoiding human contact as much as possible. Idk. I’m starting to feel indifferent to captivity when it’s not needed. You could’ve raised him establishing a plan that was not so human oriented. So eh. Not the most happiest ending for me.

  4. I don't know why people often call them ugly. I think they're cute! Very playful and I love the adorable sounds they make. Poor hyenas get such a bad rap. They deserve respect and care like any other creature. Glad to see they're getting it at this lovely facility.

  5. Usually co-habitating animals of different species is bad (just as a general psa for normal folks seeings this) BUT therapy partners for rescued wilds is quite common and extremely useful and it's good to see they managed it really closely and made sure both of them were happy and safe!!

  6. What I learned about Hyena hierarchy is male pups born with female siblings will be killed by the sister siblings. Not so if only males are in the litter. Does this make it tricky to raise him in a foster setting ?

  7. His first puppy brother helped him learn how to socialize so he was able to adapt pretty quickly to his new hyena brothers. Very cool.

  8. Sad that they can’t go back to the wild but also glad they are being taken care of well with huge place to run a play!

  9. If he’s a male, he was probably abandoned. Hyenas are a very female dominated species and they don’t typically care about males as anything other than a potential sperm donor or an extra hunter

  10. "Unforutnately for them, they can't be released"

Oh, yes. How unfortunate that they're going to be kept safe, fed, watered, and medically cared for for the rest of their unnaturally long lives. Being in the wilderness with competition, parasites, starvation and a short life span would have been much better. Because that's "natural".

  11. As a male hyena, this is a blessing for him. If he didn't lose his family, they would treat him like crap once he's an adult since male hyenas are at the bottom of the ladder after cubs.

  12. female spotted hyenas are so mean to males I wouldn't be surprised if they are happier just dudes being bros for life compared to the best case scenario in the wild

  13. Sometimes we are blessed with a family which may not look like anyone else's but that's all right. Love is at the core of a family however it comes together 3:36

  14. This may not be a popular comment, but it makes me happy that they will not be released in to the wild. Especially the "little one" who thankfully has a pack now. May they live long, happy, and protected lives ❤
