Following an epic #UFC290 event, the #UFC returns to the APEX on Saturday for #UFCVegas77, and with the women’s bantamweight title currently vacant, the stakes are high for headliners Holly Holm and Mayra Bueno Silva.
MMA Fighting’s Mike Heck and Shaheen Al-Shatti discuss the main event between Holm and Bueno Silva, the stakes involved in the bantamweight tilt, and if a title shot could await the winner following Amanda Nunes’ retirement. To be honest, Im shocked that Holly Holm vs Mayra Bueno Silva isnt for the Womens Bantamweight Championship? I know this is #3 vs #10 but both ladies have a claim to the title. Holly has won 3 of 4. Mayra is unbeaten at 135. UFC on ESPN 49 is a good card. I think people are trashing it cause its after UFC 290 and we were spoiled. Thanks to the panel for liking my question about the womens bantamweight division and the domination of Amanda Nunes. Was nervous I would have yelled at for the question. Imagine how much more people would have been excited if the title was on the line.
Jan v Poatan winner 'll fight Jiri before the end of the year, for the vacant belt. Ankalaev is in the same position as Jan, coming off a draw, he needs a W. Can't give him a title shot just bc most people thought he's here to take over, is a 'Magomed' & has The Beard.

"It's fair to demand better" – Mike Heck – When you are saying this about 90% of every single Fight Night card on ESPN+, then to me, this has more to do with you having poor expectations about what these Fight Nights actually are and what they're designed to do. Without these lower level, lower stakes, "free" Fight Night cards, what's the point of the PPVs then? We all know that the PPVs are designed to be big, important, exciting, moving the needle, and having the most amount of stakes to get butts in seats and purchases made. I've already adjusted my Fight Night expectations since the ESPN deal landed in 2019 and then again once they've started moving most of these fight cards to the APEX and smaller arenas.
In my opinion, I think it's been plenty enough time we just embrace that this is what it is and move on. Hey, the silver lining here is that it just makes the PPVs THAT much bigger, which is a pretty big deal given how prices have continue to go up and up.

Holly Holm a Hall of famer in MMA?? You guys are tripping. She's lost every big fight she's had with the exception of RR. Her fights are not at all exciting. She is a point fighter not a killer. She absolutely does not have a Hall of Fame resume. I expect better from you guys.
