SCARIEST 3-11-2011 Japan Tsunami Footage [Compilation] [Part 1]

Spread The Viralist

First part of the SCARIEST footage from the 2011 Japan tsunami, which was caused by a massive earthquake off the coast of the Tohoku region of Japan on March 11, 2011.

The 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami (Japanese: 東北地方太平洋沖地震, Hepburn: Tōhoku-chihō Taiheiyō Oki Jishin) occurred at 14:46 JST (05:46 UTC) on 11 March. The magnitude 9.0–9.1 (Mw) undersea megathrust earthquake had an epicenter in the Pacific Ocean, 72 km (45 mi) east of the Oshika Peninsula of the Tōhoku region, and lasted approximately six minutes, causing a tsunami. It is sometimes known in Japan as the “Great East Japan Earthquake” (東日本大震災, Higashi nihon daishinsai), among other names. The disaster is often referred to in both Japanese and English as simply 3.11 (read san ten ichi-ichi in Japanese).

It was the most powerful earthquake ever recorded in Japan, and the fourth most powerful earthquake in the world since modern record-keeping began in 1900. The earthquake triggered powerful tsunami waves that may have reached heights of up to 40.5 meters (133 ft) in Miyako in Tōhoku’s Iwate Prefecture, and which, in the Sendai area, traveled at 700 km/h (435 mph) and up to 10 km (6 mi) inland. Residents of Sendai had only eight to ten minutes of warning, and more than a hundred evacuation sites were washed away. The snowfall which accompanied the tsunami and the freezing temperature hindered rescue works greatly; for instance, Ishinomaki, the city with most deaths, was 0 °C (32 °F) as the tsunami hit. The official figures released in 2021 reported 19,759 deaths, 6,242 injured, and 2,553 people missing, and a report from 2015 indicated 228,863 people were still living away from their home in either temporary housing or due to permanent relocation.

  1. How did Japan recover after this mass destruction? It was 12 years ago, but the clean-up I can't even imagine, would still be going on. Those poor people. I cry every time I see new footage being shown.

  2. The one thing I wouldn’t of been doing was stand by and watch it I would if kept running , my heart goes to out to those in these situations and especially to the animals.

  3. As you may have noticed, a tsunami is not just a big wave. A 30 cm tsunami means that the sea level will rise by 30 cm. The ocean is overflowing. Even if it's less than waist height, gravel, garbage, scraps, everything will swirl in the water and rip your lower body off.

  4. Shrines and temples in such areas are always built on high ground or on the mountainside. Considering that they were built hundreds of years ago, it is possible that such tsunamis have occurred in the past. It is said that the elderly were taught by their parents and grandparents to "flee to the shrine as soon as an earthquake strikes!"

  5. 33:46 I can’t get over the absolute force of that water. I’ve never seen anything like this in my life. Such a massive body of water filled with this much debris moving at such an incredible, unrelenting speed!! I literally looks like death

  6. Scary footage, i didnt realise how deadly all that debris is in the water until i seen footage of the banda ache, tsunami, people getting mangled by big tree logs and cars and houses when they were swept away with the water. It was horrific.

  7. Fun Fact: (Well Idk how fun it is)
They actually found a Motor Bike Washed up in California a few years after this, And it was found to be from Japan from this Tsunami! It was saved and returned to Japan

  8. I am frustrated at how many people just stand there and watch, or start running slowly, stopping and starting as the water rushes toward them. They need to run for their life as fast as they can!

  9. I was vacationing in Las Vegas, NV when this occurred in my motherland. I remember my cousin in Sendai calling me, I missed so many calls from him, when I picked up I remember him telling me earthquake hit Japan followed by tsunami (it was bad), he sounded calm but there was also frantic in his voice at the same time (I heard a lot of cries in the background during the call, then lots of screaming and the call dropped). I was inside the Paris Hotel Casino dining in Eiffel Tower. I went blank faced and told my American friends what just happened so we went back to our hotel rooms and logged onto the internet. It was ground breaking and all over the news. I remember trying to call everyone back home in Sendai and Osaka. No one picked up from Sendai but my mother picked up and her voice was shaking in distress. I told her I wanted to fly back immediately but she told me it was unsafe to return and land back into Japan due to the aftershocks and the tsunami flooding the airport. I saw so many footages, I felt helpless stuck in America, and all I could do was worry, be in tears, and feel strong emotions for my native comrades in Japan. Sendai was completely gone! I was 27 when this event occurred. I lost my cousins in Sendai, but I still have my mother who was alive in Osaka. Going back to watch the earthquake and tsunami footages from this event still gives me a lump in my throat till this day. Never forgotten.

  10. I can't understand why all of the thousands of cars and trucks weren't driven to higher ground before the tsunami. The clear up after the tsunami was made much harder because of this.

  11. OMG I am watching this just now But I live in the UK. And the date is 22/04/2023. I feel so sorry for these people that live in these regions in our world where one day they are living in Heaven and the next day it's Hell. I am happy to live in Scotland. I'm wish all these people the best of luck. Mother nature is certainly not to be messed with. Xx

  12. Even tho Japan has good tsunami warning systems but still cause a lots of deaths because in the past people experiences tsunami with the height above 5m so they build 5m or 6m seawalls. But in 3/11/11 very thing change, the tsunami hieght is twice or even three time as tall as the seawalls and also it fast speed and it fast rising water made people hard to out run and escape. And to make even more worse the tsunami came like a fast rising flood water reither than a giant wall of water appear in the horizon. For the highest height of the 2011 tsunami is 40m at Omoe near Miyako city. And also the only town that never take any damage by the tsunami is the town of Fudai because they build a 15m tall seawall.

  13. I watch Tsunami videos again and again and my heart aches…!😭

But two things make me very sad, that is, even after hearing the tsunami warning, people are standing on the seashore and watching, which is a very irresponsible act…!

And the second thing that hurts is that first there was an earthquake, then a tsunami, and then at night there was a massive fire in houses and trees…!😭

May Allah not show such a time to any country Amen…!🤲

  14. I honestly wonder why they build close to the water. It’s no news that there are tectonic plates on the earth? Yes I live far from them but read about it in school and I can’t help thinking “never underestimate the power of water”! This is so massive, so terrifying, I can’t imagine the horror of being there.

  15. At 1650, that dog is screaming at those people. ..LET'S GO LET'S GET OUT OF HERE. …WOW, I TOLD YOU, YOU ALL ARE CRAZY. …man's best friend. ..

  16. 0:04 how the motorist keep riding calmly, not rushing or panicking, staying on the path while the tide hits the ground beside them. It's different in my country when a tidal wave hits the mainland, people must be panicking and don't know which way to drive their car or run for their lives and of course it will be make a very bad traffic jams.

  17. Just utter devastation and sadness. I was watching this live and was so shocked and and heartbroken. This is the best compilation I've seen but it's still absolutely terrifying.

  18. omg, bei manchen die gefilmt haben dachte ich nur, ist euch euer leben nichts wert ??!! wenn die flut boote stapelt, welche wucht könnte auf euch zukommen ! ganz ehrlich, realitäts blind !!
