I remember the acid rain from that power plant taking the paint off our car and falling on the leaves of our trees and damaging our garden. Good riddance.
We demolished an even older bridge in my hometown on the Ohio River a few years back. It was well over 100 years old when it finally closed for good.
Part of the reason why it took so long to demolish is that it had an eagle living under it for years. It would also attack people who walked the bridge, so they had to take out the stairs leading up to the walkway to discourage people from using it.
The internet, home to stupidity, ignorance and a willingness to believe in the blatantly impossible.

my father used to work in detroit in another one of the very tall buildings around, and himself and my mother drove to the city the day hudson’s was coming down and went up in the building he worked in to find a good place to watch it from. they got to see it, but say the dust and smoke left over in the air for the rest of the day was less than pleasant.
that first one was a real good silo demo. they almost never go that smoothly but that one fell in the perfect spot and destroyed itself like a knife through butter.
