  1. let me get this straight, they won't punish people for drug offenses and put them in jail, but they are going to start putting homeless people into jail for not taking a tent down from 8am-8pm…. you have got to be joking right, if they won't enforce drug offenses, how are they going to enforce homelessness LOL…. what a joke…. great job liberal bots

  2. get a job at mcdonalds or get mental or drug help, there are jobs here in PDX, quit ugliing up the city, ur making us kids embarrased to say were from PDX

  3. This won’t fix anything.
It will only make the problem worse.

It’s unlikely that any will be able to pay the fines, duh.

Placing them in jail is basically punishment for being poor, sick, unemployed, or mentally ill.

When they leave jail after the “30 days”, whatever supplies they accumulated to survive will be gone and they will have to start over.

Many services offered for people in all types of need don’t fit the situation or come with unrealistic restrictions. That’s why many services are refused.

  4. The land of lib dem policies creates a crapphole city, and this is the best they come up with? Vote dem, and you too can have such a shinning city!

  5. Why don't they want to fix the root of the problems which are drug addiction and mental illness among the homeless population? Force them into rehab.
Giving them cheap housing doesn't solve the problem

  6. If elected leader's had done their job and not ignored the rule of law nothing would have gotten this bad. There are laws on the books that have been ignored for years, it started with the Occupiers in the park downtown, laws were broken, lack of enforcement. Everything has spiraled since.

  7. Do you really want to get the "homeless" to leave? Shut down the free soup kitchens and the free needle giveaways. Repeal the non-existent drug laws.

  8. Enforcement with no police? Prosecution avoiding, politically ambitious, Prosecutors? Minimal or non-existent punishment from social activist judges? Good luck, Portland, you voted for this mess.

  9. They keep moving homeless in hopes they die faster. People waiting for government to fix this are uneducated and don't actually care about people. Just themselves. People would rather they stay on the street, because majority don't like it when someone gets help without working for it.

This is on you. Want change? Help the homeless yourselves. DEMAND it from government. Don't ask and wait. That's futile and you should know it by now. Decades later….

  10. Why are people mad at this? The voters of Portland voted for the politicians that prioritize crime over their citizens.

  11. Im homeless but it doesn't effect me. I dont leave a tent up and you know what i hate that other people that do because theyre on drugs and steal. They have people looking out for them.

  12. Why don’t they cut down some of the trees in their overgrown forests and build more government subsidized housing before the lumber is lost in another forest fire anyways.

  13. 85,000 kids missing from the border 10,000 kids missing from Ukraine and the media is silent. Kids being trafficked has surpassed the drug trade and all media cares about are the LGBTQ and Putting Trump in prison .now the LGBTQ wants to normalize paedophilia what side will you be on.?

  14. First of all, I really question the common sense and mental santiy of the Portland residents because thigns have gotten so rotten. And the people putting up with this kind of lawlessness and filth are jsut cowards. They should be fighting tooth and nail to take over the govt and put th eMayor and the other woke politicans under trial for gross negligence to keep the city safe.

  15. What happened? Did Portland grow a few braincells? Did reality bite? Did you vote republican?
Whatever happened, congratulations and welcome back.

  16. How many of these people are gainfully employed, but can't afford rent? How many of these people are mentally ill? The assumption about homelessness is that the homeless person is a "lazy bum." But there are categories of homelessness which the state should be held accountable for, such as the two just mentioned.

  17. I don't see this as an answer. I do understand that no one wants to deal with a lot of people using drugs and alcohol outside of businesses, I get that too. There needs to be a place to be able to set the tents up, that is legal areas, I am sure there are parking lots, or someplace that would work so they do not have to take those tents up and down every day and would be out of the way of others doing their businesses. Not all the homeless are having addiction problems, and many are elderly. We can be both sensible and compassionate at the same time.

  18. You know why Portlanders are so gung ho on cops just arresting homeless people? The average Portlanders is a coward or weakling who can't defend themselves if their life depended on it so they want the police to do it.

  19. Well its a federal problem and the leadership gap has left people unable to deal with a problem of this magnitude. Imagine what you really need to do. You can't arrest them they will get sick within 6 hours maybe from Fentanyl addiction, they couldn't work and manage your tent rules they are in fact then stranded in their position.
So what you need to do as a country is to do a full scale cleanup like El Salvador with some balls. And you conscript everyone who even remotely looks like they are loitering into the military.
Even the sick ones and the crazy ones the gang members and everyone on the street level and the system uses them even to help each other but in a military setting offering food shelter and training for infrastructure work. Unemployed and enlist in the blue army get a good job get picked as a loiterer or gang member get a worse job.
That is what you need to do and so that is a very big leap from where you are today.

  20. The guy with the mowhawk at the end says people need help, but we all know it isnt there. The woman showing how the sleeping bag rolls up…pretty naive. Sad post covid world.

  21. I mean, people there want to live in such a self destructive society, let them. Glad I don't live there. People from all over America go there because of the loose drug laws. I'm not political, but there are consequences to people's outlandish demands like free drug use and no consequences for robbery and murder. Portland won't last another 20 years for sure.

  22. The daytime camping ban is not enforceable. Homeless people cannot afford to pay fines, and 30 days in jail is 30 days of "3 hots and a cot". The Leftist loonies in Portland voted for politicians who made their city a haven for the homeless.

  23. Like the business owner said, this will do nothing to fix the problems. Shoveling shit from point a to point b does not get rid of the shit. That just spreads it around more. And, if the consequences are not pursued, people wont even move. More bs from liberal officials to make themselves feel better and make them richer.
They love homelessness because it is HUGELY profitable for city leaders. They demand millions to fix the problem. But the problems never get fixed. They just get worse.
