Hurricane Ian hits South Carolina in its second US landfall after carving a swathe of major destruction across Florida. It returned as a category one hurricane near Georgetown at 2:05 local time on Friday before losing some power as it marched inland.
Ian’s maximum sustained winds were 85 mph when it came ashore and battered the state with damaging winds, heavy rain and storm surge.
In coastal South Carolina, Ian damaged four piers and sent torrents of water flooding into neighborhoods, including in the popular seaside city of Myrtle Beach.
The storm caused a middle section of the Cherry Grove Pier in North Myrtle Beach to collapse. It was just one of the many structures downed in the area from storm surge.
Online cameras showed seawater filling neighborhoods in Garden City to calf level. Nearly 200,000 homes and businesses in South Carolina were without power by Friday evening.
In the city of Charleston, around 80 miles south of where the hurricane made landfall, cars were seen driving through flooded roads.
Ian was one of the strongest storms ever to hit the US when it struck Florida as a category four hurricane on Wednesday. Officials in Florida, meanwhile, were assessing the damage and continuing search and rescue efforts after Ian slammed into the Fort Myers area.

I live in Myrtle Beach. Just a 5 minute walk to the beach.
No, Myrtle Beach did not encounter a Tsunami like storm surge.
No, Myrtle Beach did not become a vast Ocean.
Actually walked down to the beach as soon as storm passed.
Sun was out & lots of people on the beach.
Some flooding & damage to hotels.
Everything was back to normal the very next day.

Me and my family are highly considering moving to SC next year for work. We would be in land around Heartsville area. Anyone think it's a good idea to move there or should we advoid. I come from the east coast of Canada and we get a lot of wind constantly and obviously when hurricanes come by but this seems like a lot of damage.
