Dont get the BBC so I looked for clips of the new Top Gear to see if its as dull as everyone says. All I found are dozens and dozens of fun clips of Clarkson, Hammond and May.

The boat probably didn't work because the engine being high up and straight out forced the nose of the boat down whereas a normal propeller lifts it up out of the water so the boat runs more along the top of it than through it. The extra drag would make it that slow.
