Travel is not always fun and games… there’s many things that happen behind the camera which you never see and I usually choose not to talk about, until now.

While I’ve never seriously been robbed, mugged or jumped — there have been a handful of scary situations where my life has flashed before my eyes. Here are the 3 most intense moments that happened to me in India, Kazakhstan and Chad.

What is the scariest thing that’s happened to you on the road? Please share the story in the comments below!

  1. I always feel awkward taking photographs in general as a tourist, you never know when someone might object.. I think people in general are sick of tourists and their cameras around the world..

  2. kazakhstan have the nerve the police to get the tourists into police station if you not have the passport for one specific reason. just to get YOUR MONEY and them leave you free to go

  3. The thing is, by taking a picture of a kid like that, he made it look like he's a rich white man visiting a human zoo/safari: it's not live people minding their own business, to him it was more like exotic exhibits in a museum, and you don't ask exhibits a permission to take a photo. I guess it was not only creepy, but insulting.

  4. Alright so my scariest trip is a 5 day trip to Southern London, so I was at a really dark aisle because my “driver” told me that the hotel is at the dark aisle, and then all of a sudden, some Pakistani roadmen jumped out of nowhere and threatened me with a knife, they told me to give them my phone, and I just pass them my old phone cuz I don’t to get injured or get in trouble, yea it turns out my driver was also a roadman. Well luckily some cops were around and saw what happened and they arrested all of them. So what I’ve learned from my trip is to always make sure you are travelling to a safe area, never go to any dark aisle in a foreign country by yourself/with someone you don’t know (except for travelling in a group, then that’s fine) and finally never trust strangers you have never know before in another country you aren’t familiar with

  5. I am from Kazakhstan, u should of told that cop to F of lol, Kazakhstan is safer than America lol , sorry but you got ripped of lol

  6. My most scariest place i went: Six world adventure park (there were big slides i slide 1 with my floating ring on and the floating ring dumped me to the water and i felt i just drowned and i survived)

  7. If you want scary travel stories, read With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa by Eugene Sledge. That guy had a horrible visit to the Pacific.

  8. Drew, I've been to Chad and one person did exactly what you did with taking the photo and what not. Don't EVER take a photo of ANYONE without their permission, because Holy $h!t there was this huge fight with people punching and shouting, one dude pulled out a pocket knife, and all of this was accompanied with a bloodbath. Take my word for it. But at the end of the day, your videos are amazing! Don't let these moments scare you into staying home!

  9. Why do people like this always want so much attention for being fuckups and privileged? I've been kidnapped, fell off cliffs, robbed and got caught in earthquakes, wildfires, tsunamis and volcano eruptions while traveling, all because I'm a dumbass white kid with no street smarts and a sheltered upbringing, but I don't flaunt it and I don't tell the stories to people, especially not with dramatic music and "I COULD HAVE DIED" written on my forehead as a badge of honor… this is like listening to that really annoying frat buddy who always tells you how he was mugged again, every time you go drinking. Jesus this is cringe and I hope it doesn't inspire other people to go traveling to get "war stories" to fish with like this…
