Part two is out NOW!

Hey guys! Before I start let it be known, all of the incidents mentioned in this video were extremely sad and I’d like to recognize the people affected by them. 🙂
*
As roller coasters have been around for a little over a century now, they have developed significantly in safety and other aspects of the industry, but that hasn’t been without fault. Unfortunately, accidents do occur and it’s important we educate ourselves about them. These are 5 of the worst roller coaster disasters in amusement history.

*Out of respect for the people affected by these accidents, I’ve refrained from including any actual footage or pictures of the events that took place. (Hence the reason for the thumbnail and POV of Whizzer).

  1. Funny to hear of 2 “Big Dippers” with big accidents. There is another one you should have on here. Big Dipper at Krug Park, 1930, killing 4 and injuring 19. Sounds strangely similar too….in this case first car derailling on uphill chain then all of them coming off as chain kept going.

  2. I'd certainly add the ironically named Mindbender disaster at West Edmonton Mall's Galaxyland in 1986 that killed 3 people and injured dozens to that list! It's also still in operation and as popular than ever after significant design changes to prevent people from being launched and mindbended out of the train like those people were that fateful June evening…

  3. Statistics for the United States

From 1987 to 2000, there were an estimated 4.5 amusement ride-related deaths per year.[1]

From 1990 to 2004, there were 52 deaths associated with amusement park rides (3.7 per year).[2][3]

Every day from May through September in each year between 1990-2010 had an average of 20 injuries by amusement park guests under 18 years of age that required hospitalization.[4]

In 2011, 1,204 people were injured at 400 amusement parks, according to the IAAPA.[2]

In 2019, there were 1,299 injuries from amusement park accidents in the U.S.[5] If you are willing to gamble your life you should second guess getting on these flying death traps! ugh

  4. there was an incident in one of the theme parks in Asia. They had a coaster ride over a man made lake. somehow the ride malfunctioned midway and one of the riders fell into the thingy. that has been a tragic death that i can't forget since my childhood.

  5. there’s a big dipper where i live (west virginia) and i thought he was talking about that one! there’s been multiple incidents on that one, like a whole cart of riders being stranded on the top for 3 hours and an elderly woman flying out of her seat and inevitably dying. it’s a really unsafe coaster; i don’t know how it hasn’t been torn down yet.

  6. @NationalCoasters i know your a channel about roller coasters, but you should do a video on ghost house fires, they are sort of roller coasterish, being cars and carts on a rail line, there was a deadly one in the 60s at Luna Park in Sydney Australia and i know there's been other deadly ones around the world over the years, would make a good video

  7. Actually The Wildcat Accident didn't lead to Bells Closure, The lease of the park was refused renewal for the land in 2006. They are Planning to rebuild from what I heard.

  8. Feedback for speaker: The audio was poor. Slow down your speech and don't drop off the ends of your sentences. The music even became too loud over your voice making it even less understandable. Just constructive criticism if you want more "likes" and subscribers.

  9. Surprised that one park in South Korea didn't make this list (the one with a sketchy duck coaster), I think the abandoned park is still there to this day.
