Celebrating 10 Years of Prusa Research: Share Your Prusa Story and win!
Spread The Viralist

This celebration is an important milestone for us, but it shouldn’t be just about our company. You are an integral part of our history, too – without you, there wouldn’t be any “us”. One of my favorite things is to hear about all your awesome projects and crazy ideas you brought to life using one of our machines.

So, share your story on your favorite social media network (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) with the tag #myprusastory and let us know what amazing things you managed to create with one of our 3D printers. 🙂 We’ll keep a close eye on your stories and award the best ones with physical prizes: 10× Original Prusa i3 MK3S+ and 500× 10th Anniversary print sheets. Plus, a selected few will be invited to our podcast and/or we’ll send out our camera crew to record a video about your project.

We’ll go through your stories, one by one, and we’ll pick our personal favorites, so the chances of winning are not related to likes or retweets.

  1. It's grat to see so many faces that we all interact often from the 3d printing community showing their love and admitation for the work made trough this decade from Jo and the Prusa Team. The first decade of many for sure! 😉

    Stay wild… design the future!

  2. When I read that I should share #myprusastory, I thought about it. A great new hobby? Awesome people in a worldwide community? One tool that has already saved me a lot of money and time?
Of course! But it's not that simple.
When I think back, it all starts in 2017. I was 13 years old and went to school, I was interested in Lego and basic electronics, computers and robots for a while. Then I saw a desktop 3D printer for the first time and it was like love at first sight. So many possibilities! And at that time I was only thinking about relatively few things. Anyway, I got in touch with this guy from the robotics club at school who invited me to show me his printer (not a Prusa). After that, I made up my mind to get one too. Of course, I had almost no money, so I started saving money in many corners. Without any background knowledge, I looked for a printer as cheap as possible, found one for about 200€, one of those China clones. But it never came to that. My father heard about this wish and began (secretly) to research. He came across Prusa, who had just released the Prusa i3 MK2S. I knew nothing about it. However, on my 14th birthday I got the big surprise: an original MK2S kit! Without knowing how this device really works, we assembled it ( stretched over 2 weeks!) and the first print was unbelievably good in retrospect. I still own it, it was the pre-sliced castle in silver PLA, will add a picture.
Thrilled with the printer, I spent days, weeks, months just sitting in front of it and watching it print. Then more and more followed. I moved away from the ready-made gcodes on the SD card to self-sliced models from the internet (great new possibilities for me at that time! ^^).
Another friend gave me filament, his father bought it in the wrong diameter: ABS neon green. I had no idea what to expect, loaded it into the printer and started printing. And what can I say, it worked. When I think back, so many factors could have ruined the print.
Learned more. Used support structures after a few stupid failures. Read manuals, watched videos and learned some Fusion 360. And that wasn't all, many more interests came out of that, programming and microcontrollers for example.
Then: my first fail: a blob on the hotend. Remember the guy who showed me the printer before? I called him and told him about the problem. He came straight over, together we went into the Prusa Live Chat and they sent us the links to the spare parts. A few days later I successfully replaced thr E3D V6 hotend.
For me, the ideas and projects grew, I did first small design and print jobs for neighbours and improved my projects in science competitions with 3D printing.
Then in 2019 the Prusa Mini was introduced and I thought it was time for a second printer – features and price were perfect for a 16th birthday present. Even though the printer arrived 4 months after my birthday.
In the meantime I tried new materials, nozzles and modifications, took Octolapse shots and kept learning.
Prusa started the first competition on PrusaPrinters (yes, Printables hasn't always been called that kids xD): it was about Halloween themed prints. I had the idea to post an invisible ghost, it was just a joke but somehow it went pretty "viral" and I got the special prize for the funniest entry. I can still remember Josef Prusa retweeting my tweet about it and I got a lot of likes on Twitter for the first time. A fun time.
Then my father, a friend of mine (yes, the one who had helped me before) and I went to Formnext Frankfurt. There I met Josef Prusa for the first time, a really exciting moment! We talked, took a photo and he signed my laptop. Afterwards I also met Stefan aka CNC Kicthen. A great day.
I went on and won a science competition with my project where I recycled old batteries. Of course I printed cases, test devices and much more for it
Few weeks later I visited a filament manufacturer and got to produce my own roll. Great moments.
Then, unexpectedly, the Corona Pandemic hit. I read about Prusa's Face Shields, thought it was a great idea, but didn't expect them to be needed in my region – until someone contacted me and asked if I could print Face Shields. No problem, I said. Two days later the local newspaper was at my door and wanted to write about it. so my friend and I joined forces and increased our capacity. We had previously set up a Prusa i3 MK3 in our school, using it we could initially produce with 4 printers, the demand increased, we founded a Discord server. Several months of work, the result was: over 60 volunteers and 4500 Face Shields delivered, all financed by voluntary donations. Crazy times but a great experience. One of the highlights was a Zoom meeting with Dale Dougherty and Josef Prusa at the virtual Maker Faire. I joined and got to report live how our production was going. Such a surprising and great moment.
Next, my Prusa Mini arrived and it was signed by Josef Prusa himself! A real surprise.
Moving on, more printers built, modified and more projects realised.
Most recently, I worked as a 3D printing coach for a competition I had previously won and helped participants realise their projects using 3D printing.
But where am I now. In about half a year I will have my A-levels and afterwards I want to study electrical engineering. This text got quite long – did anyone even read it up to here? Even though I can think of many more things that could have been written down, I think the message remains the same: the Prusa i3 Mk2S was the best investment my father ever did. This printer has shaped me and my life. I can only say thank you to Josef Prusa and his team. And well, maybe I'll win one of these prizes and we'll see each other soon in a Prusa Live Stream. Or maybe I'll be the proud owner of a golden Prusa ^^
Parents, build a 3D printer with your children.

  3. Do dalších let vám přeji ODVAHU, chlapci (a děvčata:-).

Přeju Vám mnoho úspěchů a dalších tiskáren. Tisku zdar 👍🏻😉

  5. I waited for a couple of years to get into 3d printing saving up to get a good one, and after trying a couple of other brands due to availability, fortune smiled on me when I came across a used Prusa MK3 that was in disrepair for a great price, and with a little effort and a new hotend, I now have my BEST 3D printer!! Thanks Josef. Great product and I look forward to purchasing an XL when they are available. Happy 10 year Anniversary!

  6. So great to see familiar faces! This is what truly makes the difference in this hobby/passion/job/headache: THE COMMUNITY, and Prusa has been a promoter and developer of that community, thank you and congrats!

  7. Congratz Joe and the Prusa team, I remember back when you started offering test printed parts for the Mk1 and the time we all hang out in a google hangouts. Keep up the great work and hoping the next 10 years are better.

  8. Congratulations to Joe and whole Prusa team ( including the floor mopping guy). Although I don't have a original Prusa yet ( I from Myanmar. Me and most of people income rate is quite low. So, still can't afford a OEM Prusa yet). Prusa give me inspiration and so much 3d printing knowledge.

  9. I had tinkered with small 3d printers for years before, but always refrained from buying a Prusa. My goal was to design and build my own CoreXY variant for which I already had collected a lot of parts over time. Then my dad got diagnosed with cancer and I took care of him for the short period he had left.

One day he saw a 3d printer on the TV and asked: "Don't you have one of those too?" – "Yes, just not a big one like that" – "Well, how much are they? Your birthday is coming up and I want to gift one to you." – "You don't have to. I want to build one myself" – "Come on. You can still do that… and use my gift to create parts for it, can't you?". So in 2020 I finally became part of the Prusa community. It feels much longer, but some people say that might be because I got an MMU2 kit too… ;-).

I have yet to build my own printer, but I am not sure why I would want to anymore. The MK3 never disappointed, it is a workhorse. While upgrading to the MMU I realised I could use a backup printer after I forgot to print a part and had already torn down the hotend. So I added a Mini to the family too.

While my dad has already left us, I'll always cherish the memories of him helping me build the MK3, even though we fought over gummy bears a few times. He was amazed by what you can do with these machines and loved that we were able to help people by printing "ear protectors" and mask frames when the pandemic took over the world. And while I miss my dad, he's somehow around when I throw a new file at the printer.

  10. I got my Prusa Mk3s in 2019, and I can safely say it's the best purchase I have made.

Not once has it let me down, all the negative things that happened were the fault of my inexperienced self, but even then, the VERY professional Support team at Prusa helped me out quickly.

They have always guided me through what I had to do to fix the Problem, be it in the slicer software or on the machine itself.

Since I got it, I have printed dozens of awesome models, Cosplay stuff, useful tools, helpful everyday things that can't be bought, but most importantly, it brought in still brings me a lot of joy and happiness, I wouldn't trade it for any other printer.

To be honest, at first, I thought it was a waste of money, but that quickly changed once I started printing things with actual usage, for example Tie hooks, phone holders and, of course, the famous Face shields which were a blessing.

Right now, I'm printing the Fallout 4 Combat armor for a costume party at my school, and I wouldn't be able to have such a cool costume without you.

Thank you, thank you for the amazing machine and the great company.

    Congratulations on 10 years!

  11. Congrats. When you started i was 7 years old🤯. And now im having 3d printing since 4 years as a Hobby. My Mk3S+ is just a year old but its the best printer i ever had.
