UK Flooding – Drone vid shows whole town of Dumfries submerged

Dumfries and Galloway has seen some of its “worst flooding for a number of years” after the River Nith burst its banks.

Dramatic drone footage shows the scale of flooding in the town of Dumfries after southern Scotland was hit by heavy rainfall.

The local authority said it issued more than 1400 sandbags across the region and teams are working overnight to fill more for Friday.

Dumfries and Galloway Local Resilience Partnership said it has been responding to adverse weather across the region for the last 24 hours.

Chief inspector Stuart Davidson, Police Scotland, said “This has been a monumental effort from everyone involved, as we’ve seen some of the worst flooding in our region for a number of years.

“The picture continued to change rapidly throughout the day, but all partners were able to make decisions and mobilise their efforts to make sure that we provided support where it was needed and kept individuals safe.”

Traffic Scotland said earlier it had reports of flooding on the M74/A74(M) around Abington in South Lanarkshire and on the A75 near Barlae in Dumfries and Galloway.

Davidson added: “I’d like to thank the public for their continued co-operation in following the warnings and travelling with care on our roads.”

  1. Imagine being one of those people whos homes and livelyhoods ruined after oppressive restrictions for the best part of 2 years, I'd be making the lives of those responsible a living hell until the day I drop dead

  2. SO WHERE IS KRANKIE TO BE SEEN THEN to support you guys ……..no the English government will be there again………and that's ok we are 1 country …. treasonous women

  3. Best thing to do is realise this is just going to happen over and over again, take a deep breath and think, this maybe the time to start fresh and build a eco modern house higher up from the current water level for the the future, maybe a round one with 360 windows, yes the money, but this land build is doomed with no resale value anymore, many will be marked afterwards as high risk investments and made difficult to obtain credit or first time buyers cash from the money lenders. The land can be sold to maybe a building on stilts or farm land.

  5. Whole town submerged 😂😂 Surprised this still makes the news, this has gone on for so many years in Dumfries (I remember it flooding as a child & I’m 46 now, so a loooooong time) & nothing ever gets done about it 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

  6. Year by year the flooding will become worse, this is down to local authority planning departments taking back handers, not climate change thats they want you to believe.

  7. Again the town of Dumfries has become the seat and base of nature's apparent latest disaster but as before no farmers feilds are flooded with crops destroyed no herds carried away by the torrents no mudslides geologic shift earthquake or volcanics.. None of this just the streets and homes of inadequately drained Dumfries under an sea of man made human waste and silage..

  8. What this actually shows is a field on a flood plane, flooded as you would expect and one street next to the river under water, a street that apparently floods regularly. More yellow journalism by the Sun.

  9. On the one hand the SNP demanding independence, at the same time demanding more money from Westminster. No doubt the rain is Margaret Thatcher and the wicked Tory's fault.

  10. There were discussions about dredging the river to increase water flow a few years back but as usual these came to nothing due to predicted costs among other issues.

  11. I live at the top of a large hill so I can look down and laugh at all those idiots living in the valleys whose homes now have their own indoor swimming pool. 🤣
