Happy Valentines day everyone! It’s so great to show the love, but just remember to also show some love to planet earth and SKIP the balloons for valentines day. There are way better alternatives to showing your love for someone then buying heart shaped balloons that ultimately end up in the ocean being swallowed by marine life or entangling them. We spend a lot of time cleaning up all the balloons that land in the ocean during our wild life filming adventures. It is truly disheartening to see the numbers of balloons alone on a single afternoon. Here are a couple videos from our ocean adventures saving a sea turtle entangled by balloons as well as just cleaning up the insane numbers of them. We wanted to take a couple minutes to address the balloon issue upon finding the turtle, and then cut the string off and released it. It was an important image for the public to see and no further harm was done to the turtle while taking a few moments to educate others.
If you didn’t catch the Oscar speech made by Joaquin Phoenix, he said “We fear the idea of personal change, because we think we need to sacrifice something; to give something up. But human beings at our best are so creative and inventive, and we can create, develop and implement systems of change that are beneficial to all sentient beings and the environment,”
Nobody could have said it better. Make a personal change, and don’t buy balloons for celebrations. It won’t be a sacrifice. There are so many better alternatives that are benefit everyone and EVERYTHING 🙂 Cheers!
