A 42 year old Temescal Valley man charged with 3 counts of murder for what prosecutors said was an intentional ramming of a car filled with teens who had played a prank doorbell ring game at his house appeared in court Thursday afternoon, January 23, for the first time, but the arraignment hearing was delayed to February 21.
Anurag Chandra was charged earlier in the day with three counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder in connection with the Sunday night car wreck near his home that left 3 16 year old boys dead and 3 other injured, the Riverside County District Attorneys Office said.
The prosecutors office said the boys were having a sleepover Sunday and, on a dare, drove in a Toyota Prius to a nearby home on Mojeska Summit Drive to ring a doorbell and run.
Chandra, who lived in the home where the prank was played, got into his Infiniti sedan and chased the youths in the Prius authorities said.
The California Highway Patrol said Chandra intentionally rammed the back of the Prius forcing the driver to lose control and hit a tree at Temescal Canyon Road near Trilogy Parkway. Temescal Valley is a county area south of Corona.
The district attorneys special circumstance allegation of multiple murders makes Chandra eligible for the death penalty if convicted as currently charged. District Attorney Michael Hestrin has not made a decision on pursuing that sentence spokesman John Hall said.

If the ages were reversed (not necessarily the specific prank, but if older folks were playing a joke or something on younger people and the younger people killed them . Everyone would be bashing the kids . Jacob has turned 16 like a week or so before he died. They were celebrating his birthday. They could’ve been drinking and driving , doing drugs etc . How can we expect kids to respect elders whenever this is what elders do?
Everyone gets tick-tacked (ding dong ditched). I agree with you and with what the DA said, that it’s just not a normal reaction to get in your car and chase the kids. He could have called the police if he really felt threatened. And get a security camera installed on the front door. They are real cheap.
Murder? Death Penalty? For a first time offender? … Are they joking ???? These rowdy kids were targeting and terrorizing this man … I bet this was not the first time they harassed him. And 6 passengers speeding in a Prius with no seat belts!!! Let's be honest – The only reason why they want the death penalty is because the boys are white and Mr. Chandra is Pakistani. There would be no death penalty if Mr. Chandra was white and the boys were black.
