An amazing video has emerged of a wild leopard being rescued from a well in India.

In the footage, captured by wildlife photographer Sujan Shetty in Mudrady, Udupi, Karnataka on Saturday, a group of villagers and forest officials can be seen pulling the animal to safety from the 15-feet deep well.

According to news reports, the young leopard was discovered in the well on the Divya Sagar Estate at 09:00am (local time) on Saturday after presumably falling in during the night.

Following the rescue, the animal was taken to the RFO Depot in Hebri where it received treatment for injuries to its nails.

  1. Would have been nice to see someone throw some meat/food in there to calm him down. I mean chicken minus the curry with that crowd couldn’t have been too far.

  2. A lot of people commenting saying the poor leopard was traumatised. Yes he would have been having to be around all those people making all that noise. But these people did the best they could. From people with little money or resources, I think they did a brilliant job. Well done guys.

  3. Amazing Rescue. They should have been quiet, The poor Leopard is beyond stressed & scared. I hope they released him in a Beautiful spot & fed him a huge meal.

  4. So many people wanting/trying to help, but most of them are doing nothing but talking and yelling. What good is it to the animal to hear many people talking/yelling at once? What good is it to the people? They want to be heard among/above everyone else?
The situation would have been better if everyone would just be quiet!

  5. You know, the leopard is so stressed by the event and it doesn't help that literally everyone is continually screaming! >:(

  6. Unfortunately, from the leopard's point-of-view, this all looks like a hunting trap, i.e. the leopard thinks the people deliberately wanted to capture it
