Bak kut teh, which literally translates to meat bone tea, is a common dish in Singapore and Malaysia that includes pork bones which are boiled in a herbal medley of spices. Although one may think that tea is somehow used for the cooking of the meat, from what I read, the recipe actually doesn’t include any tea, but it got its name because you’re supposed to drink strong tea along with eating the meat to clean the grease. There are quite a few restaurants to eat bak kut teh in Singapore, but due to my location I decided to go to a place called Outram Park Yahua Rou Gu Cha, located near the harbor, but facing the road. It’s a pretty nice environment, lots of space and easy to get to. The service was friendly, and although some have told me the prices are pretty high even for Singapore, we decided to go for it.
Along with the pork ribs soup, we also got some pickled cured vegetables, some braised tofu, and another bowl of soup that was pork kidney soup. The pork kidney soup was quite good, very smooth and the pieces of kidney were nice and tender, with a bit of chewiness to them, but not overly so. What I really liked was the braised tofu, which was so juicy and filled with the braised Chinese sauce and spices.
Moving onto the actual bak kut teh, the broth was wonderfully flavorful with white pepper. It was a strong pepper flavor, but it was smooth and soothing at the same time. The pork meat was also very nice and tender. I really enjoyed the bak kut teh at Outram Park Yahua Rou Gu Cha in Singapore.

singapore pepper soup! fake bakuteh
I visited this place in my recent trip to Singapore and is not as you mentioned it to be. I guess a business can change a lot in 2 years, I would not recommend anyone to come here since this business is very shady. They put stuff on your table right after sitting down that you did not order. If you do not tell them that you do not want it, you will get charge for it without realizing until is time to pay the bill.
Orang makan nya aja kaya BAK

Name of bak kut teh is nothing to do with tea. Name came from a first guy sold bak kut teh at Klang Malaysia. Teh is inspired by his first name. Teh selling pork, means bak kut teh.
Hi. I've been watching your videos for Years now. I was just wondering if you ever had a dish that turned out to be awful or terrible (maybe under cooked, too salty, too bland, etc) that you wouldn't recommend it…. what was it and where was it?
I think the best bak kut teh is from this hawker in Vivo city.

Actually, organ meats are the most nutritious to eat. I used to smash the simmered garlic in my rice…really tasty! Looking at your great expressions, I think you could make a flip-flop seem delicious. Did you go to Balestier Rd for Bah Kut Teh as well? I found this simple recipe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aESOgpgAuM4
still not original bakuteh..the best way just go to klang,malaysia..
Bah Kut Teh is only a dish in Singapore. It is a religion for us in Klang.
Anyone else wondering when his eyeballs are going to pop out of his head? Lol one day he's going to bite something so good…POP lol
the dark soy sauce is usually used to pour onto your rice, never onto the chili hahahhhaha

The light peppery type of Bak Kut Teh is the Teochew version of Bak Kut Teh. While the heavily spiced type of Bak Kut Teh is the Hokkien version of Bak Kut Teh.

Please eat the rice with the spoon you are severe with. You look poor thing struggling to pick of this grains of rice with chopsticks. These are not sticky rice like u see in Korean or japan. You have to eat them with spoon. And seeing you trying to pick up those small cuts of vege makes u kinda look funny. Sorry. But the spoon is there for a reason ??
usually my mom love to include the vegetable in the soup
