This video is a very typical lunch in Phuket (ข้าวแกงภูเก็ต). For more restaurants in Phuket go here: http://www.eatingthaifood.com/phuket-restaurants/

One of my favorite meals to eat in Thailand is rice and curry called khao gaeng (ข้าวแกง). One of the reasons I love it so much is because you get to see what dishes are available, and choose whatever looks the most delicious, and another reason I love khao gaeng so much is because many of the dishes are spicy and full of flavor and are eaten along with rice. The south of Thailand is home to some of my favorite food in the world, and I could eat khao gaeng (ข้าวแกง) everyday.

On my first day in Phuket (ภูเก็ต), after just arriving from Krabi, my wife and I were both hungry and we were just walking around and found a very typical, normal restaurant to eat khao gaeng (ข้าวแกง). It was the mid-afternoon, so not all the dishes were available, but we just chose a few of the best looking dishes, and sat down for lunch.

Probably my favorite dish to eat in the south of Thailand is gaeng som, a sour and spicy soup. At this street food restaurants in Phuket I ordered gaeng som naw mai pla (แกงส้มหน่อไม้ปลา), gaeng some with bamboo shoots and fish. The dish was overall quite good, nice and spicy and sour, with big chunks of fish and crisp bamboo shoots as well. Another dish I love to eat in southern Thailand is gaeng look lian moo (แกงลูกเหลียงหมู), a type of bean sprout with pork this time, all within a coconut milk based curry. Finally, we ordered a bowl of dom pla meuk (ต้มปลาหมึก), boiled squid with pieces of carrot and daikon radish. Although it was on the plain side in flavor compared to the other dishes, I really enjoyed it because the squid was nice and fresh.

Overall, this was a very normal khao gaeng (ข้าวแกง), rice and curry meal in Phuket (ภูเก็ต), and you’ll find similar restaurants throughout Thailand and the south of the country. But even though this is just a normal restaurant, this is the type of place I love so much!
