On Day 10 of our trip to South Korea, we took a day trip from Jeonju to Buan. After doing some sightseeing, I tried sannakji for the first time, which is a Korean delicacy of live octopus, and had wonderful samgyetang for dinner.

00:42 Saemangeum Information Center – Our first stop of the day, once we arrived in Buan, was to visit the Saemangeum Information Center, which is a museum explaining the process of the huge land reclamation. We then headed over to the Buan Silkworm Town – 3,000 Won ($2.57), and walked around the museum and met some Korean students.

3:44 Namdosusan Restaurant (남도수산횟집) – For lunch we drove near to the ocean and went to a restaurant called Namdosusan Restaurant (남도수산횟집), well known for the sannakji, or the Korean delicacy of eating live octopus. Along with the octopus, we also each had a bowl of porridge, which was pretty good. The live octopus was very interesting, and it was simply sliced up and topped with sesame oil, and dipped into chili paste before each bite. Porridge – 10,000 per bowl ($8.58), Sannakji (산낙지) – 15,000 Won ($12.87), Live octopus – 15,000 Won ($12.87)

7:00 Naesosa Temple (내소사) – 3,000 Won ($2.57) – After lunch we drove over to Naesosa Temple (내소사), which is another wonderful nature park and temple in the Jeonbuk province of South Korea, and we walked around the temple and nature park for a while. Again, the beautiful nature is what really struck me as amazing.

9:56 Gyeoseong Samgyetang Restaurant (계성삼계탕) – For dinner we went to a restaurant back in Jeoju called Gyeoseong Samgyetang Restaurant (계성삼계탕) that specializes in samgyetang, which is a Korean ginseng chicken soup, and it happens to be a personal favorite of mine. The dish is made with a spring chicken, which is stuffed with rice and then cooked with ginseng. This was an amazing dinner to end the day with. Samgyetang – ginseng chicken soup, Total price – 13,000 Won ($11.16) per bowl of chicken soup.
