For millions of years different countries throughout Southeast Asia have eaten fertilzed duck egg, but not until now are we able to compare two duck lovers, each in their home turf. In the Philippines they call it Balut and in Vietnam, it’s known as hột vịt lộn. Today I try both as they go head to head leaving you to decide which is best. Ready? Go!

I’m a huge fan of trying different, interesting and strange foods in each country. My show is from a Western point of view, but more importantly MY point of view, but is not meant to offend any person or culture.

  1. Bourdain is the name of the coolest guy on earth today ,wooowww i am a filipina but i really don't like balut , i don't know i just can't eat it

  2. Sonny, I am Vietnamese (American), and I cried when I first heard about baluts as a child. I don't think I ever ate it. It is hard to see a baby duck as food, but if you think about it, the cows, chickens, and pigs suffer more greatly when they are killed for food than a duck fetus. If we eat lamb and veal, we have to know those babies are killed at a young age for food. Any way, I am saying that without judgment. You got this raw vegan hooked on your channel, and I am gaining a renewed and deeper appreciation for the country of my heritage. Keep up the great work. Love, laura–your (probably ONLY) raw-vegan fan.
