  1. I watched a Time Team episode yesterday in which the team was looking for remnants of a camp where 1000s of men were stationed for 6 weeks during WW1, training to fire vickers machine guns. The history was interesting.. the team ended the episode with Phil Harding firing one of the guns to remember the men who were involved, and killed. It was very moving.. a relative of one of the soldiers brought a small bag to the dig, containing the few belongings sent to the soldier's wife.. his mangled watch, a pipe, and his diary stained with his blood and still holding a bullet fragment. The latter was long gone- I ask myself when ever I see these photos, did everyone comprehend what the war was about? I suppose so.. as for myself I'm far removed- I cannot make sense of it.. I see those 15" howitzer shells and the carnage they left and my stomach rolls and tightens. There are plenty of men who are still digging up boxes and boxes of ammunition, weapons and the remains of soldiers killed in ww1 and 2, returning them to their countries of origin. Thank you for publishing these pictures in remembrance.. when will we learn..?!
