None of this surprises me. The horse sniffing the baby is how the horse registers the new addition. The horse will recognize this person for as long as the horse lives now. I run an animal rescue and have seen horses years and years after they were adopted out to their forever homes and they always instantly recognize me no matter how long it has been. But horses are incredibly gentle with babies and the weak or elderly among us and of weaker animals.
We had a GSD that had been severely abused by humans and he would not even let me touch him, but the horses adopted this poor baby and made him part of the heard. He slept in the horse barn and they stood watch over him. It took a year but he finally opened up to me but he never strayed too far from his horse buddies.
Horses are amazing creatures, they are prey animals so they behave differently then most animals we are accustomed to being around. But if you spend time with them and learn how they think it’s a beautiful thing. ❤️🐎💪🏻

The horse was sniffing at the infants head because that's where infants secrete a sweet smelling oil that helps mother and baby bond. It lasts a month then slowly dissipates.
It is a shame that mankind doesn’t fully understand that other beings are sensitive and caring and deserve our respect
