Today we’re eating some of the best food in Durban, South Africa for bunny chow and shisanyama.
Durban is a city that’s home to the Zulu People and one of the biggest Indian ethnic populations of any city outside of India. One of the ultimate South African foods you have to try in Durban is called Bunny Chow, an Indian South African food invented in Durban, and we’re about to try two different versions and find out why it’s one of the greatest dishes ever.
Here are the places we ate at in Durban, South Africa:
Patel Vegetarian Restaurant (https://maps.app.goo.gl/PUPiDuFXp9zhbC3u9) – Open since 1911, this place is an institution and they serve some of the best bunny chows in Durban.
Mojo’s Car Wash and Shisanyama (https://maps.app.goo.gl/C97sK2biK1rpPogU9) – Along with bunny chow, you can’t visit Durban without eating Shisanyama and we headed to this spot in Mayville Township for all the meats.
Gounden’s Restaurant (https://maps.app.goo.gl/fa6PHAJVYWCZs5te6) – But the top recommendation for where to eat the best bunny chow was hand down Gounden’s Restaurant for their Mutton Bunny Chow and I was not going to miss it.
Skipper’s Fish and Chips (https://maps.app.goo.gl/LmiKwzq1HmK9CdEY8) – We finished the day with a legendary fish and chips shop near the beach.
Durban is an amazing city with a mix of cultures and foods. It was another extremely delicious day in South Africa!

As a South African living in Spain, this was so hard to watch – mouth watering 😋
I had my first bunny at Patels almost 20 years ago, a sugar beans bunny 👌🏽 & Goundens on Umbilo is definitely one of the best!
Love how Mark travelled and ate like a local, but also try to fit into and enjoy the local culture.
good video men
I was wondering if the poor lady even had some😂😂
Mark 😂😂😂😂
My hometown❤ Thanks Mark for sharing!
As a white Afrikaner I love my fellow African brothers and sisters, but shisa nyama meat is inferior to an Afrikaner braai. Zulu people tent to over-spice and over-cook the meat, but the event is almost always amazing and fun! (Xhosa braais are boring by comparison and Coloured braais are taken way too seriously. Chill, it's just food and not a competition, lol). Afrikaners know how to keep the meat juicy and limit the spice so that you can appreciate the quality of the cuts. As for Durban's bunny chows: It's excellent and has no equal, but as a Capetonian I will always love Cape Malay dishes. Viva South Africa and thanks for visiting us, Mark
You definitely did it right. Durban is known for bunny chows. Now the way I want to eat bunny chow.
Hey guys, if you like to travel, feel free to visit our page! we also tried Chinese food!
I can officially say that "I LOVE YOU" Mark!!! You've acknowledged my comments before, long before you even went to South Africa and i would request that when you do, you go to my home city Durban as i would have that experience with you of all the things i miss about home after being in the U.S for 7 years now, this is so awesome and I'm jealous!!🙏🏼🔥😭
I miss the social environment because that’s a very important thing that has been aggressively engineered away from in the west for the sake of “productivity”
Bunny chow 😋😋
Gonna go get a loaf of bread 🍞 and buy me favourite curry 🍛
Attack bunny chow chow at home 🤤🤤
What a legend 👏 this is the best channel
We love meat 😂it’s cos we are all eating for the ancestors who had meat deprivation
Cape town has the best fish and chips
Hi, Mark. Question, is there anything that you don't like or won't eat?
Goundens!!! The absolute best in SA! Yay Mark!
So pleased to see you in my country. I have been sending comments to you asking when you were coming. Thanks for keeping an old lady's wish alive
I love this Mark, enjoy yourself and the South African cuisine…please also come to Cape Town
Gr8 video as always. Observation here, the meat platter served with a side of fresh chillies and salt is similar to what we do with our meals in Bengal, India. It's served as part of the meal. Not sure which came first, but it's all good in the foodie world.
Love from South Korea ❤❤❤
Born and brought up in KZN and moved to Cape Town in 2000. There is no true Durban style bunny chow here but we make our own. As for Durban you can get a bunny chow all over. In my young days I loved the broad beans bunny chow from Victory Lounge.
If Mark drank a bowl of lava, it'll be like drinking slushy to him. Mouth and throat of steel.
South Africa in the chat😭💯
The amount of slap tjips??? Cape Town please do this man right with the fish parcel.
