Located in Toseong-myeon, Goseong-gun, Gangwon-do, the temple “禾”** is a historic Buddhist temple that has been handed down since the Silla Dynasty, where you can feel peace of mind with beautiful natural scenery.
Hwaamsa Temple is said to have been built by 眞表律 **Jinpyoyulsa during the reign of King Hyegong of Silla (around the 8th century). It was first destroyed and rebuilt several times after its construction, and it was moved back to its current location in **1864 (at the time of King Gojong). Its name was *Suamsa Temple (穗 Temple)* at the time, and it was renamed Hwaamsa Temple again in 1912.
The temple was destroyed during the Korean War, but reconstruction continued, and the existing building was demolished and newly constructed ahead of the 1991 World Jamboree Congress to take on the appearance of today’s temple.

Located in the deep forest at the foot of Mt. Seorak and Mt. Geumgang, the temple has the advantage of location where you can appreciate the mountain and sea scenery at the same time as it is in contact with the East Sea. It is good for feeling the tranquility and healing of temples in nature, where the surrounding trails, valleys, and lush forests are harmonized.

Historically, Hwaamsa Temple has repeatedly been rebuilt through several fires and destruction. During the Joseon Dynasty, there were also the loss and reconstruction of the temple, showing important events that happened again in history after many years of natural disasters and wars.

Hwaamsa Temple is a temple that has continued the long Buddhist tradition of the Goseong area and has a history of more than a thousand years and has served as the spiritual center of the area along with the natural environment.
