As a youth, I’d been in many street fights.
As a man, I fought world-class boxers in the ring.
And here’s what I learned — a world-class boxer is predictable, but a street fight never is.
There are no rules, no refs, no weight classes… and in the end, no real winners.
Boxing taught me control — not aggression.
It gave me confidence to stay calm, think clearly, and handle situations smart.
In this video, I share what 30 years of experience in both the streets and the ring taught me about real self-defence, confidence, and mindset.

A hellashis offense is the best defense.
I Agree 100%. I had to protect myself from the Bullies at an early age. Once I was determined not to be taken advantage of any more. I ended up beating my Bullies and standing up to those who tried to push me around. I knew I could handle myself, when you stood up to the neighborhood bullies and they later on and go get the gun for the ..so whipping you gave them for trying you. By God's Grace they didn't kill me. As an older and wiser Man I fight with my Brains and my Patience and God's Protection. It is always Good to know how to Defend and protect yourself from the aggressors.
You have alot of ammunition if it's ever needed Garry 100% ,better walking away if provoked as you could seriously hurt someone in the street, but if no other choice it would be lights for them definitely!!!
Your mind is the most powerful weapon you possess.
So you started boxing at 26? Love the video!
Unless you have a solid background in wrestling or BJJ and have been in street fights b4, you're in big trouble if you're up against a boxer that knows how to feint and jab well. I'm a HUGE UFC fan and I used to think that BJJ can neutralize anything but what if you can't take it to the ground? What if the guy you're fighting is too quick and has footwork? If you can't dodge, block or maneuver then you're screwed.
I avoid street fights myself, but have observed a few. A trained, experienced fighter will usually finish a fight against an untrained opponent in seconds. As much as skill is important, aggression in the form of a speedy, powerful attack will usually be the most effective.
Great presentation sir. You are a very cool man.
I'm a 73yr listen to this wise man stay safe everyone hands up chin down
My sibling bro, only 5'1"was getting in fights like it seemed nearly every day since day one beginning school. When in his teens he was telling me about how he was winning every fight. I saw him in a fight once against a 6' ish guy and my brother was very vicious and mercilessly savage. Had him down on the ground kicking his head in until a mate of mine intervened and dragged my bro off the big guy.
With all the insane moooslums in the UK you better know self-defense
Gaz I went to school with you mate great to see ya doing well I was just scrolling and come across you that’s great ya teaching boxing 🥊 well done brother 😎
Goodstuff
Agree most of what you say.Boxing good are still train at 45 and like you say it ain't a life line. But good to know
I Should have walked awsy
I wanna know how your tatts got iniked in with perfect reflection 😉
I've taught myself how to avoid street fights more so than preparing for them. I stay alert and avoid places that are known to be dangerous if I can. Any sign of possible trouble (e.g. someone looking at me the wrong way), I leave the area.
I'll do my utmost to not end up in a street fight. There's no shame in walking or running away. I had a friend who died from a single punch.
Great video. You speak truth.
I did boxing and street fights
When in streets fights boxing comes out on top from my experience.
Cheers.
🙄 get off the anime bud. The best REAL fighters dont get into dumbass street fights.
Also, boxing matches are honourable. Street fights? At least from what I've seen, 9/10 street fights don't start face to face. You'll be peacefully drinking tea in chai stall and someone who wants to beef you will sneak up behind you with steel pipe with a few of his unemployed friends and uncles.
I disagree. I've won almost every street fight I've ever been in and it's better winning than losing. And I/we were often outnumbered, outsized and often there were weapons involved. The only fair fight I ever lost was to my best friend when I was 13, he was 15 and bigger and stronger. He was a boxer. However, losing that fight, was o e of the best things to ever happen to me. It forced me to see my shortcomings and motivated me to start training and thinking like a fighter. Two years later we got into it again but I had grown and had been training. I beat him easily, in fact I beat him and my other best friend up at the same time. Both times, as soon as the fight was over, we all went back to being friends.
This is the first video I found and watched on this channel. All it took was one to get me to subscribe.
When I first started training in the late 70's our Sensei constantly told us the best defense was to avoid street fights as much as possible. We would train to defend ourselves only if all other tactics had failed. The first time I had to use my training in a street encounter what I remember the most is that my reactions were automatic, no thinking, just attack. It seemed that the instigator moved in slow motion and it was over before it began. Today, I would just run as fast as I could..its way too crazy out there..LOL!
Good video.
There is nothing like consistent boxing or martial arts sparring, just at moderate intensity, to realize how vulnerable one is, even when fast and in shape. That´s what usually keeps people who know how to defend themselves out of brawls, and that´s why you can see that most people who look for street fights don´t actually know how to fight…
Anything can happen back in the day me and my two friends got jumped at. Party I got the worst of it. My two friends stabbed 12 guys and one of my friends was stabbed . Crazy night there's a lot more that happened. Anyway years later my friend told me he accidentally stabbed my other friend during the fight Right in the lung he almost died.
Lol it's not like in the movies oh and my friend that was stabbed almost cut a finger off accidentally.we were pretty drunk. Its best to avoid any violence it doesn't matter if you are a pro fighter cus in the streets it's a whole different ball game.
The older I get the more reluctant I am of going to jail for any reason. Therefore my #1 go-to for a physical altercation is pepper gel. All I'm aiming to do is walk away unharmed and free of prosecution. The #2 option is for life and death situations
Yes definitely with you regards being trained can prevent fights, that's my mindset. You carry that confidence that the average Joe looking for trouble tends to avoid. And if it does happen, although the streets are unpredictable I'd rather have the control of a trained fighter, even if it means only using what's necessary to get away rather than stomping on someone unnecessarily and uncontrollably
Street fights are full of people who are mentally ill, drug and alcohol induced, people with poor cardio, bad health. So often the least qualified people are fighting you because of their tempers
Boxing will give you an overwhelming advantage against someone who does not train and does nothing, like most street punks and bullies who prey on the weak. However, as you said, the street is very unpredictable, with multiple attackers and weapons. And boxing, while great, does not make you invincible. So you just have to keep that in mind.
A guy I knew from high school played Football(American Football) in grade school and college, and he wrestled and was the best wrestler we had on the team!
Then he decided to take up boxing at 18 or 19 because he was so athletic. He had some amateur fights and even went pro and was 7-0 for his career before he decided to quit because he didn't want the long-term damage from the sport he was starting to cause on his body.
He was stabbed up one night outside a nightclub in Downtown Baltimore about 17 years ago. He carries those scars to this day. He claims he did not know the guys and that it was a case of mistaken identity. The Thugs had no idea he was a tough boxer who could KO people! He also had previously saved his friends by taking out multiple guys on a basketball court that tried to attack him and his friends after a pick-up basketball game because the opponents were sore losers.
So it speaks again about how the street is so unpredictable and no fight or fights will be the same. Yes, a trained boxer could end a violent confrontation with one shot, and his friends will not want any and might run. But there will be no referee to say 'go,' and you won't always be able to determine when or if you should fight.
First rule street fights ..get up close sink your teeth in the nose ..your got to win and I had over 30 amatuer boxing fights ..got me out of trouble in all sougts of situations against bigger men
You have put in a hard shift pal. Respect.
I’m not a trained fighter, but I’ve been in a few street fights mostly when I lived in Birmingham England back in the nineties. Had knives , baseball bats, even a car used against me as a weapon, Australia as well.
Been jumped on by multiple people and in a street fight there is only one rule and that is there are no rules.
It’s only by the grace of God that I’m still here today, one time a knife literally nicked my throat if I had not moved when I did it would have been game over for me.
The one thing I’ve learned is that when you’re in the fight is one has to have the mindset that you have got to do what it takes to survive even if it means killing the person or persons attacking you.
Fortunately I have not had to have to that extreme, but I have come close to point that it scared the girl I was protecting from us being attacked by three thugs with knives.
They were coming towards us real fast and we had nowhere to go , I felt pure rage and went for them telling them that when I get the knife what I was going to do to them. I had every intention of doing that.
They were shocked they ran , for they weren’t expecting their prey to become the predator and them the prey.
My response scared my date so much that she didn’t want to go out with me again.
There is a cost to every fight you have and this was one of them. Some people can’t handle the fact that someone go from Zero fighting mode to 100% per fight mode and then back to zero in an instant.
What would the consequences have been had I gotten the knife of the one I was going for?
Would I have been killed?
Would I have been charged with murder or manslaughter or grievous bodily harm.
Remember there are consequences for every single fight you have.
The best fights I’ve had are the ones I didn’t have.
If I had been by myself that night I would’ve ran away from the threat , but with my date who would not have been able to run as fast as me. The only option was offence and I was lucky for it could have gone bad.
One only should fight if there’s no other option
Fights are won and lost in the mind/head. It's all shits and giggles until you get sentenced to 2 years for knocking a man out, and putting him in a coma. Was a long old road to redemption. Now 30 years out of jail. Only ever fight to defend yourself or loved ones. It's really not worth it, talking from experience.
☆☆Punk, passion, great f'n tunes, good friends, great times…Celebrate this. Forget the rest. Luv you an the others who share their priceless efforts an time-have nuttin but respect fer yous. Peace an Shove… 4-eva😂❤❤❤☆☆
☆I've seen tooo much street violence lives wasted over pride, jealousy, an covetin' anothers goods. Just takes someone getting thrown into the floor to kill 'em… When someone's feral, they can bite a chunk of ya straight off. Some reals sickies out there. Better to try and not put onesself in those situ's if possible. Toss the keys to them, property is not worth your life mates. Much respect, great video. Cheers to yous an yours!☆
Years ago there was a good mechanic in Taree his name was Brian Comer not sure if he is related?
The Boxing Ring has rules and a ref with ringside Doctors. In the Streets there are no rules and Prison or the Cemetery are the destination for the Winner or Loser. Facts!
Nice story
Street fight is so different than boxing because its unpredictable anything can happen
Street fights has no rules. Lol 🤣
Real life legend sir, thank you for sharing your wisdom, Lord bless you
Glad he brought this up because it is so true.
