  1. This will only work if your reaction is quicker than 'the punch from nowhere', in most cases, you won't be, good advice though.

  2. Also watch early Iron Mike fights, he was a master at just slipping the jab and landing that KO hook. In fact if you slow some down you will see he starts to throw the hook at the same time the jab is being thrown, NOT after the slip

  3. Thank you for the insights. I have been in many unavoidable situations due to the line of work I was in as well as being a total shit magnet. And my go to moves were:
    – both arms raised and hands open as though I'm trying to calm the person and not wanting an altercation. More often than not, the right swing came. I'd move in close, in with the left arm to block, then up, around and over to pin. Then the left swing came and I'd do the same, pinning the left arm as well. From there, I'd go to sway left right to unbalance and then go for the trip landing on top.
    – As the swing comes, to duck under, my right arm going around the neck as I brought the space between my neck and right shoulder under their armpit then standing up and grabbing my right wrist with left hand, then pulling/squeezing hard. If they did not submit/give up there, again, I'd trip them and land on top.

In my experience, I do not want the attacker to have free hands. Because many either have weapons, or they may get lucky with a punch. So I no longer just block. I grab and pin then throw to get complete control. The way I see it, if we do not pin and control, the fight gets prolonged and risks just get bigger.

  4. Hubud Lubud basics I did this against a boxing coach while training at the famous Upton Gym in Baltimore, MD where coach Ford trains Tank Davis, it threw my training coach for minute because it allowed me to time and track his elbow, and placed me outside his jab and allowed me to cross up his arms/centerline. I train & teach Filipino Martial Arts. In Pencak Silat and Filipino Martial Arts, Hubud Lubud is a drill that translates to "tie and untie" or "tangle and untangle". It focuses on developing close-range combat skills through a continuous flow of hand movements, emphasizing staying connected with an opponent's arm or body while changing positions. The drill aims to improve tactile sensitivity, reaction time, speed, and flow.

  5. If you’re lucky enough to fight an unskilled striker, you’ll usually find yourself on the outside of their 🔂 wide punch as long as you avoid it. Sometimes you move to the side, sometimes you make the opponent move To your side.

  6. too bad thats not how people really fight..you will never ever get a chance to do what this guy is teaching unless your lucky…what he teaches CANNOT BE DUPLICATED…unless your lucky…im not confident that hes actually been in a real life and death fight like what we do here every single day we go out side…evry day our lives are on the line..let me see you do that when no one is looking

  7. This will definitely work when a 95 year old man throws a lightning fast hay maker from his wheel chair. I mean no disrespect. Just making a joke but in all seriousness this is way too technical for most people to use in my opinion.

  8. And use your legs. Avoidance with lateral movements makes the other guy reset and have to think about what he's getting into. This will often diffuse the situation.

  9. Really the only time you should grab someones wrist is if you are going to arm drag them, Or you are dirty boxing wrestling inside forehead to forehead and forcing them to go around your arms so you can win the inside neck control as soon as you let go. When deflecting limbs from long distance i use my wrists and keep my hands relaxed so the arm isnt collapsible as I extend my armpit and elbow muscles and tendons.

  10. These are martial arts techniques for blocking punches.
Theyre ok. But if you really want to learn how to defend punches take up boxing and you could use your foot and head work to just slip them and pivot right back into a different angle and just unload with some balanced power counters of your own…without needing to block anything or staying in close quarters.
Way too risky, unpra tical and dangerously stupid.

  11. Clearly he knows how to fight but i honestly believe all self defense is a bad idea. I genuinely believe that weapons are the only self defense. I also think doing that crazy monkey guard is silly, circle away from the back hand across the jab and your hands are free even hand fight as ypu move ready for your own cross. Doing that inside hand nonsense is asking to get caught.

  12. No. If you're not a boxer, how would you know what combination he is throwing?? Left straight, right straight, leg kick, ETC., ETC., ETC…
