One thing unmentioned here regarding the Johnst Flood is that along water’s path coming down the Comenaugh Valley was a barbed wire factory, so amongst the debris in the waters that struck Johnstown was hundreds of miles of barbed wire which caught and ensnared additional debris, livestock and human beings along the way.

  2. One thing, amongst many, I learned from reading David McCollough’s breakout best-seller The Johnstown Flood was that earthen dams are actually superior in many ways to concrete dams. However, their Achilles Heel is overtopping. Once water begins to flow over an earthen dam, unstopped, it is only a matter of time until the dam will fail.

  3. Never live below a dam. Dams are crimes against nature. People are impressed by big things because they are stupid.Why can't humans live in the beautiful world we have?
