I Played Every First Person Shooter Made In Japan
Spread The Viralist

I played EVERY first-person shooter ever made in Japan. From obscure PC-88 experiments to modern PlayStation 5 titles. There’s always been a myth that Japan doesn’t make FPS games and this video is here to disprove that, so get read for some strange, creative, and downright bizarre games that most players have never even heard of.

From Jumping Flash and Ghost In The Shell to Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid, here’s every Japanese FPS ever made.

🧠 What’s in this video:
– A full look at every Japanese-developed FPS ever made
– Hidden gems from the PC-98, Sega Saturn, and PS1 to the PS5 and Steam
– Wild experiments that barely qualify as shooters
– FPS evolution in Japan from 8-bit to PS5

  2. You know, we live in the far 2025 future, you can just point your phone at stuff and ask google translator to translate stuff for you by camera. To be fair, it's not aways perfect, but, if you wanting to review stuff from japan while not speaking japanese, prob would help you XD

  3. Once we got to The Citadel, I was like, if this doesn't get S tier, I'm out. However, you did not disappoint! Amazing work on this video dude!

  4. this is a long video and alot of games, im gonna watch this chunk by chunk, but im curious if someone can tell me what game is the very first one that appears at the 0:00 beginning ?

  5. I am a little disappointed that X's sequel, X-scape, didn't get mentioned. Granted, it was a DSi e-shop title, and pretty much all of those got overlooked because… well, because DSi. Sure, you could buy DSi games on the 3DS e-shop, but no one DID.

    Excellent roundup, though.

  6. XOps was a weirdly fun one back in the day. It even had a decent multiplayer scene for what it was—mostly Japanese, but there was a handful of us English speakers too.

  7. me: i'm going to own st1ka whe he misses Hazama Queen surely he'll miss it. Oh 🙁 2:23:00 Seriously amazing video! Fantastic Rain looks so cool shame its not for sale and v hard to find elsewhere.

  8. I can't help but notice toward the end we started getting a LOT of waifu games in the JFPS realm. But I have to contest your Seed of the Dead rating. You said F tier but I'm seeing more DDs.

But seriously, dude, amazing work on this video. I can tell how much work you put into it and it turned out great!

  9. Was Space Griffon VF-9 too much of a mech game to make the cut? If not, guess what's it's another horror themed mech FPS set in a grey maze. It's neat to know that I'm not the only one who noticed how many of these came out around this time. In the process of writing this comment I discovered that Space Griffon is a remake of a previous game of theirs, "Hamlet" for the PC-98.

  10. Before I clicked this, I was wondering if you would mention Silent Debuggers. I was obsessed with that game as a teen. Beat it once. Was SOOOOO underrated. A true hidden gem.

  11. Hey, beena long time subscriber but recently unsubscribed. And I gotta say go fak yourself, you thin skinned little piece of shite. You should have stuck to video game content instead of trying to cancel people. People like you is what's wrong with the world.

Sincerely, I hope you get 10x what you did to the author.

  12. Yes!!!
This is exactly the kind of niche video game stuff that I love.
I always thought that the history of first person shooters was particularly interesting. Because it is one of few genres that not only demand some kind of 3D perspective by its very definition, but one that game developers wanted to try pretty much from the start.
So the early history is full of people struggling to get a convincing 3D image before our machines could even do proper 3D. You can really see and feel the struggle, compromising in a lot of ways, even just having recognizable characters, and them inching closer and closer. In a way you just don't see with 2D platformers or shmups. Playing the history.
I mean even the mechanics of how they are even supposed to work (on consoles) weren't really solidify into the modern era until halo ce came out.
Play super mario world and super mario wonder and the difference between them is almost comically small compared to wolfenstein 3D and the new Colossus or whatever.

Great video man, I will definitely try Star Cruiser one of these days. I wasn't aware of it ar all and I thought I knew my old fps games.

  13. I followed citadev before he got the first game relaesed, expecting its to be just a cool doom clone. And then he hit me with the second game

  14. Just a heads up, if you need to capture PS3 footage through an el gato, you need to get an HDMI splitter. Surprisingly it confuses the signal that prevents capture and works like a charm!

This video is great and I'm glad I had time to just sit and watch it. Well I had to make it background with glances because FPS makes me horribly motion sick. I was actually surprised how many FPS games there were made in Japan. Great work!

  15. I like how you kept asking if the Beyond Citadel dev was okay.

I have a friend who spends her time making vent art almost exactly like what you'd find in Beyond Citadel and it is to cope from the PTSD of being a combat veteran.

  16. This is a pretty cool vid, if I may provide my constructive criticism, you need to shut up a bit, sometimes and let the games speak for themselves for say, ten or twenty seconds of gameplay. The format would benefit from more silence from you, to allow the viewers to absorb critical aspects such as Ambience, Tone, Sound effects and clarity, as well as other immersive aspects, which require a look at the game just for a moment without commentary. Not trying to jab you or say you talk too much, you are providing insights and you decided to make this a "Short Review" of each game, so I can only respect that decision. Cool vid anyway, cheers. My favourite was when you showed Iron Angel of the Apocalypse and allowed that strange cutscene to roll, without talking over it, FMV cutscenes are highly indicative of the era and it's excellent to be able to see examples of that in Japanese games that are more sovereign to Japan.

  17. Don't worry, as soon as another Japanese guy even thinks about making an fps, I'll point him to this video. The truth must be maintained.
