Health benefits aside, they're paying for it as a symbol of celebration and wealth, usually with family or business colleagues. $4,800 is a bit crazy, knowing the ingredients, most of it must be shipping costs, etc, rather than the actual ingredients price.

    It is almost stupid actually. Some ingredients are dried than rehydrated. Unlike in the video, most said it is for health benefit. Superficial health benefit.

The Buddha Jumps Over the Wall dish used to be something only the upper class can afford, it has a certain prestige in Chinese ppl's heart, kind like the difference between a nike bag and a LV bag, functionaly the LV bag is not 10X better but people are willing to pay 10X money for it, so nowadays the dish is available to purchase for everyone and ppl get it for special occasions like birthdays for the elderly or closing a business deal with important client.
