🥒 *ABOUT BEFRS:*
Hey, I’m Sonny! I’m from the US but I’ve been living in Asia for 10 years and started making food and travel videos to document my experiences. I travel to different parts of the world, hunting down and documenting the most unique food each country has to offer.

If you see any factual food errors in my videos, please feel free to politely let me know in the comments. I’m a huge fan of trying different, interesting foods in each country. My show is from a Western point of view, but more importantly, MY point of view. It is not meant to offend any person or culture. Peace!

  1. Buddha Jump is more ceremonial and acts as a status symbol. Health benefits aside, they're paying for it as a symbol of celebration and wealth, usually with family or business colleagues. $4,800 is a bit crazy, knowing the ingredients, most of it must be shipping costs, etc, rather than the actual ingredients price.

  2. While I never have that 5,000USD soup, I've had something in similar scale.
It is almost stupid actually. Some ingredients are dried than rehydrated. Unlike in the video, most said it is for health benefit. Superficial health benefit.

  3. for me, the first one looks the most interesting and id definitely give that a go, however, the higher the price the more food id expect but the third one was pot of stuff i really don't want to try for that price all mushed together

  4. man brother. why take the betterhelp scam money. There is so much shit about them. bad help. instant payment demanding. a nearly 8 million dollar fine for selling personal data to advertisers. literally the typical scammer taking advantage of the unfortunate.

  5. That rice noodle place indeed has fantastic cheung fun, but my gosh, I had never seen a day of it being as clean as it is in this video having been going there for years on end 🤣🤣

  6. Did that same waiter distribute your leftover $5k food into the takeaway boxes? And was it better the next day? No one actually commented on the broth: what was that like?

  7. Ive done traditional chinese new year dinners with my ex’s family that were priced around that number. And it was fine, everything is just gelatinous and cartilage though. Just not my style. Id rather have a traditional hot pot for $50 or less imo

  8. I wouldn't waste my money on a dish with rare weird ingredients, thats probably going to taste disgusting. So i can say i ate the most expensive noodle dish. I dont see the point.

  9. The Buddha Jumps Over the Wall dish used to be something only the upper class can afford, it has a certain prestige in Chinese ppl's heart, kind like the difference between a nike bag and a LV bag, functionaly the LV bag is not 10X better but people are willing to pay 10X money for it, so nowadays the dish is available to purchase for everyone and ppl get it for special occasions like birthdays for the elderly or closing a business deal with important client.

  10. In fact, this is an improved version by Hong Kong chefs, which is more common in Guangdong and Hong Kong.

The Buddha jumps over the wall in Fujian is even thicker and full of collagen.

It's not that anyone is better, but there are differences in dietary culture between two regions: thick soup and clear soup rich in freshness

  11. tbf, I'd go for the Sichuan stew and the rice roll every day and thrice on Sunday. Buddha Jumps Over the Wall is more a "status" or super-special occasion dish (obviously).

  12. Kinda crazy seeing both Guga and Sonny doing almost the same video within the span of each other. Made me think something is happening with "chinese treasures" that is making news and I haven't heard of. Or just pure coincidence lol

  13. Cordyceps is one of the worst thing that can ever happen to the Himalayan ecosystem. The demand has destroyed habitats, reduced caterpillar population overall and increased social conflicts. Its sold as aphrodisiac in Chinese market. Don't promote such items please. It motivates wrong people.
