Spread The Viralist

Presented by ABS-CBN News Documentaries and ABS-CBN News Digital’s NXT, Tay-Og (Trembling): The 6.9 Magnitude Quake in Cebu is a 2025 documentary that brings survivors’ firsthand accounts and actual footage of the deadly earthquake that shook Northern Cebu and nearby provinces in the Philippines last September 30. Cebuano journalist Annie Perez heads to the quake’s epicenter — Bogo City — and discovers tragedy and devastation in the aftermath.

The documentary also looks into how the quake changed the landscape of Northern Cebu — with members of the Philippine volcanic agency investigating sink holes and a newly-name fault line called Bogo Bay Fault.

  1. Nindot kaayo imong bisaya and Tagalog 6.9M Tay-og docs. Nanlimbawt ako balhibo, makatandog gyud.and nakahilak ko. In times of difficulties, nakita gyud ang pagtinabangay sa katawhan. Congratulations, Ms. Annie Perez and team. "Padayon".

  2. Tay-og in Cebuano means shake (English); or alog (Tagalog). Mali yung translation nyo na trembling, because in Cebuano, tremble or trembling means kurog or nangurog (nginig or nanginginig in Tagalog).

The most appropriate term should have been Linog (Cebuano term for Earthquake) or Kurog or nginig para mas may impact ang title nyo.

Tay-og is an understatement knowing that it killed 70 people in Cebu. "Linog or Kurog" should have been a spot on title for this documentary.

Missed opportunity ABS as your title lacks impact sa aming mga Cebuanos. Tay-og?really!?

As a Cebuano myself, pag narinig ko na "gitay-og ang Bogo City" would mean "inalog ang Bogo City" – parang walang impact, walang namatay, walang bumagsak na mga tulay, simbahan at mga imprastraktura.

Ms. Annie Perez, you should have consulted your senior anchor na si Sir Leo Lastimosa, who is a certified Cebuano dialect expert since he could give you a more appropriate title for your documentary.
