5. I adopted a nine-year-old dog from a woman who could "no longer handle her." (She was a perfectly tractable dog; the woman was the problem, not Ceilidh.) She had never been allowed to be a DOG but our older dog taught her all the things she needed to know such as how to lick a marrow bone. She had huge swollen hocks, probably from being overworked at agility, and eventually they began to bleed and vet wrap was not enough, and she was ready to go (how do you know? when they will not look into your eyes, and even sit in another room). She was euthanized and immediately I heard her talking to me: "Adopt another old dog! Right now!" You are not betraying your former dog, you are honoring your former dog by loving another dog.

35. Our border collie learned on his own to boop my knee when he wants to go outside…or just sit with him. He’s a one of a kind rescue, that’s for sure.

37. Zoey doesn't understand why Mama is sad all the time after several major heartbreaking events in my life, but she now knows she's here to be my emotional support. I think she'd like to be my doctor too because she's always listening to my heart, & checking my vitals every day 😅 .. I'm so blessed, & 🥲 greatful to have her in my life.
