This otter grew close to a man and now greets him every time he kayaks. Mats saved Leya when she was just a baby. From the start, she saw him as her dad – she loved snuggling with him on the couch and playing with his hands. Leya was so brave that she even became friends with two of Mats’ other rescues: a crow and a cat. But otters are still wild animals, so Mats had to teach her how to do “otter” things and eventually release her into the wild. As bittersweet as it is, Leya’s bond with Mats still warms his heart.

River otters are allowable pets in some Asian countries, I wouldn’t have one as a pet but to foster and rehabilitate one to go back into the wild is a very good thing to do. Not only do they have good memory and very sociable, they are one of the cutest critters around! This little girl is adorable. They have those cute little whisker noses and almost human like hands. They were one of my favorite animals growing up at the zoo. This was a beautiful story, so glad this kind man took her in and raised her then let her back out into the wild. ❤❤❤❤
