Although Ubon Ratchathani is known for its marvelous Isaan food like grilled chicken and green papaya salad, when I was there, along with eating fantastic Isaan food I also discovered a restaurant serving outstanding Thai Chinese food as well. The restaurant, known as Dee Amnuaychok (ร้านตี๋อำนวยโชค), was not far from where I was staying, and after walking past a number of times, I knew it was the type of restaurants I needed to eat at. Every evening, starting at about 5 pm, they set out a huge amount of food and started setting up tables outside on the sidewalk and within the restaurant that was nearly the size of a gym – it may be one of Ubon Ratchathani’s largest and busiest restaurants.
To order at Dee Amnuaychok (ร้านตี๋อำนวยโชค), you can either order off the menu, or you can have a peek at what they are cooking at the front of the restaurant. I decided to do a bit of each, and I ordered a couple dishes, mostly braised and boiled dishes at the front, and then ordered a few more Thai Chinese dishes at the front of the restaurant. The first dish I ordered was bet pad prik haeng (เป็ดผัดพริกแห้ง), duck stir fried with dry roasted chilies. I believe the duck was first deep fried, because it was nice and crispy and then it was deep fried with extremely fragrant dried chilies, and plenty of garlic as well. It was incredibly good, and it went especially well with my bowl of rice.
The Thai Chinese food dish I ate was yod awn tantawan nam man hoy (ยอดอ่อนทานตะวันน้ำมันหอย), and although it has a long name, it was just sunflower sprouts stir fried with oyster sauce and a few pieces of crispy pork belly to give it some flavor. What I loved most about these sunflower sprouts was that they were fried on an extremely hot fire, so it had a nice burnt roasted flavor. Off the pre-made buffet, I ordered pad naw mai jeen (ผัดหน่อไม้จีน), a dish of Chinese style braised bamboo shoots. Although it was a little plain and oily, it was still very tasty. Finally, for my last dish of the meal, I had a bowl of toon mara (ตุ๋นมะระ), slow boiled bitter melon soup that included pork ribs and shitake mushrooms as well. As a lover of bitter melon, this was a wonderful soup.
I enjoyed the food at Dee Amnuaychok (ร้านตี๋อำนวยโชค) so much that I ended up returning a couple of times, and on a following night I happen to order gai pad med mamuang heemapan (ไก่ผัดเม็ดมะม่วงหิมพานต์), chicken fried with cashew nuts. It happened to be one of the best cashew chicken plates that I’ve ever had in Thailand. It was fried dry, without any of the sweet and sour sauce that is typical, and instead it was just coated in a reduction of soy sauce, with onions, dry chilies, and green onion. The chicken and cashew nuts were crispy, salty, and absolutely perfect for my taste buds.
Dee Amnuaychok (ร้านตี๋อำนวยโชค) is a wonderful Thai Chinese food restaurant, and I would really recommend it if you are ever in Ubon Ratchathani.

Hi Mark
In your Ubon Ratchathani video you mention about the menu, If you could, why don`t you tell us if they have a menu
and is the menu in Thai and english, I think it would be a great idea and it will not scare people from going to these restuarants because they can read the menu and have an idea of what they will get. So please Mark can you give it some thought it would not take to much to do. Thank you Mark
