In this video we’re trying the oldest and most iconic restaurants in Paris, France! We’ll work our way down through history, uncovering these true historical institutions in Paris and trying their food. But the question is, are they purely tourist traps, or do they still serve amazing French food?

Le Train Bleu (1901) https://maps.app.goo.gl/8srFo6f8nJ6K9SHt6 – This restaurant located in the train station is known to be one of the most beautiful restaurants in Paris! I ordered their Pâté en croûte, Roast Leg of Lamb, and Crêpes Suzette for dessert. The entire experience was phenomenal. Total price – €125.50

Le Dôme Café (1898) https://maps.app.goo.gl/SNMsqw29nwqwVD5G7 – Next up, this restaurant was one of the favorites on Anthony Bourdain. I tried their Rockfish Soup, the massive cold seafood Le Dôme Platter, Sole Meunière, and Napoléon Mille-feuille for dessert. Again, a legendary place, and the food and service were both phenomenal. Total price – €394.50 for 3 people

Bofinger (1864) https://maps.app.goo.gl/MwxdfUfNXufV2eRm9 – You can’t go to Paris without trying Bofinger, loved by tourists and locals alike. I tried their Endives and Clementines Salad, and the massive Choucroute Garnie (Bofinger’s Signature Sauerkraut) for main course. Total price – €58.90

L’Escargot Montorgueil (1832) – https://maps.app.goo.gl/hdTEyEPeMwMEE4fb9 – One of the most famous or infamous French foods are escargot, snails, and this is a historical restaurant in Paris to try them. I had their XXL Snails, Frog Legs, and Duck Confit. Total price – €138.00

Patisserie Stohrer (1730) https://maps.app.goo.gl/PZrvT1TxUR2waAYc9 – Dating back to 1730, Patisserie Stohrer is the oldest bakery in Paris, and I had their Rum Baba and Chocolate Éclair, plus a few other things I didn’t show on camera. Total price – €20.50

Le Procope (1686) https://maps.app.goo.gl/GUb6Ri9wVHdqn5ZTA – The oldest cafe and no restaurants in Paris is Le Procope, where Napoleon once left his hat as collateral for not paying for his meal. I had the French Onion Soup, Calf’s Head like in 1686, and the Coq au Vin. I was worried this place might be a total tourist trap, but to my surprise, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was incredible. Total price – €89.10

Finally, I have to mention La Tour d’Argent, the actual oldest restaurant in Paris, but unfortunately they don’t allow any filming.

  1. Nice from you to mention la Tour d'Argent. I wished you have tried it.
Just to be picky: Voltaire died 120 years before the Dôme opened. 😉
Nice video thanks. Your French series is great.
I just regret that you meet people you don't know… and you never say that you didn't like such or such dish. Saying that everything's good is… well too nice. 😉

  2. Nice review as always Marc….good you havent been mugged there or in Marseille…these places are infested with low life arabs and blacks, they re everywhere. Good review, thumbs up.

  3. These restaurants have nothing authentic, except if you want to meet old Parisian bourgeois and wealthy foreigners.
I have an heart attack each time I watch the bills ….. 🤣
-Train Bleu : For 47€ I can have the whole Gigot. 😅 8,50 for sparkling water ? 😳
And those dishes do not need to be a chef to be cooked. I can do this at home. Definitely a tourist trap.
    -Le Dome : 190€ for a seafood plate … 12 oysters at the market : 7€ ! Seriously ….
-Bofinger prices seems more reasonable and this is a good place to have a choucroute. Notice the 50cl beer is the same price than sparkling water in Le Train bleu, good reason to get drunk 😁
-Escargot Montorgueil : 54€ for 12 snails ? Is this a joke ? These snails are not from Burgundy, they come from the moon for sure ! Rest of dishes looks cheap in comparison.
-Le Procope : Well Ok, a bit expensive but i Can pay 28,5€ for a very good coq au vin. And 10.5 for an onion soup seems fair to me.

This is an average Frenchman appreciation on this vidéo. Totally subjective but not inaccurate either.

  4. Hello, and thank you for visiting "my country" 🙂
However, i think that 54€ for 12 snails… I don't know what to say or think about it 😮
    Howeverthe frogs looks wonderfull 🙂

  5. There was an old restaurant in south Chicagoland area (Roby, Indiana) named Phil Smidt's that had THE BEST sauteed frog legs..looked quite like the ones you had here… it opened in 1910, and unfortunately closed it's doors in 2007. I remember going here often as a child. I remember there was a Downy factory nearby, and the smell coming from that, wafting over to the restaurant was nauseating 😂😂 Anyway… hopefully, you had the luxury of being able to try that restaurant, it was a true gem!

  6. LA TOUR ARGENT RESTAURANT YOU CAN NOT GO THERE IF YOU DONT HAVE RÉSERVATION !! AND SOMETIMES IT TOOK 2 YEARS OR THE EARLIEST RESERVATION YOU CAN HAVE IF YOU HAVE A CHANCE IS 6 MONTHS TO A YEAR!!😂😂😂ONLY IF THEY'VE FELT THAT THE LIKE YOU TO BE THERE!!😂😂GLOBALLY IT'S VERI SÉLECTIVE PEOPLE😂 AS EVEN YOU WITH A MILLIONS OF SUBSCRIBERS DONT ALLOW YOU TO GO THERE 😂😂😂

  7. If it is only about the food, you will find those seafoods in France north western regions a lot cheaper, much better and more fresh. In Paris you pay for the place not for the food.

  8. 10:00 The is is Le Dôme Montparnasse, be careful not to mislead people. The Dome Café near the Eiffel Tower is one of the worst in Paris and a tourist scam.
