    Alice's new baby
There are a lot of comments about this female chimp so here is more info on this clip
The female chimp is Alice, the video was recorded in 2019 the day after she had given birth to her baby chimp Annie
The chimps at Chester Zoo are very well taken care of

They are watched closely by their keepers who know them all well, they have an excellent diet and have a specialist veterinary team

The chimps do not have prolapses, they are a breeding group of chimpanzees and so the females have hormonal swellings when they are in season, which let the males know they are ready to breed, this is more apparent in the wild when these swellings can be seen by the males in forest environment
Alice at Chester Zoo has a exceptionally large swelling which does reduce significantly when she is not in season
This is all normal for chimps and is called estrous swelling

At the time this was filmed Alice had just given birth the previous day, she had a swelling due to hormonal levels

Her baby is now 4 years old and both are doing fine, you can see updates on them on our channel

The keepers inform visitors of the zoo that she is in good health and the swelling is not painful, it is unusual for a chimp to have a swelling this large but each female chimp is different and it is normal for her

    Thanks for watching

  2. What is that hanging from the Chimp, who's just given Birth? She's dragging it behind her, looks to be attached, I hope she hasn't pushed out something, whilst pushing Baby out.🫶
