What do you think is the most memorable revelation on Finding Your Roots? Let us know in the comments!
It's so hard to watch relatives of Holocaust survivors especially now
RuPaul is my DNA cousin because of this line!
"Finding Your Roots" revealed a family member's secret. We found out that my very white Irish-American aunt had a black grandfather and is Queen Latifah's grandfather's first cousin. She hid this her whole life. We suspected she was hiding something because of a few odd and cryptic comments she had made, although we weren't sure about what it was. We found out shortly after she passed, which is what she would have wanted. I have even wondered if she had a hand in us finding out, as the episode had been aired long ago and was a rerun and the preview happened to mention my aunt's maiden name which caught my ear. If we had known she was 25% black, we wouldn't have loved her any less. We would have loved her as much as we did no matter what colors were in her background, even plaid!!!
The history of the holocaust was just as pernicious!
These people and many other African Americans since the heritage of slavery is so pernicious!
I never cared! I did find out that I was lied to by grandparents on both sides! All I need to know is that I was born a poor white child and will die a poor old white guy. I never knew what real love was, until my wife and I didn’t know how to handle it.
Can you do mine
Mandy's was so emotional in one direction, and Pharrell's was so emotional in another direction. Both were palpable. It's so hard not to love Lavar's the most, just because he's so lovable.
Oddly, I never wonder about my roots. I had a friend who also didn't wonder. His surname was England.
I am a 65 year old Scottish American who's family came to New Jersey in 1740. They were Doctors and ministers for 3 generations. They served George Washington in the Revolution. I have always been a Democrat and my parents were heavily involved in support of the Civil Rights movement. My mother marched the Edmund – Pettis Bridge in Selma AL in 1970 in a ceremonial march with her Unitarian Church group. I learned 10 years ago That those first ancestors were in fact Slave Owners. This was very hard for me to cope with. Many people told me that it was mid 1700's when it was widely accepted and that has NEVER given me a second of peace. It was legal and no matter what anyone says now or said then it was moraly unacceptable in every way! I wake every day to be the solution to racism because of this and what my parents instilled in me and my sisters so many years ago! It gives me joy that Dr Gates can give some help to those African Americans that were robbed of thier ancestry. That was among the many crimes those families had to endure! God Bless his work!
11:42 Treblinka was an extermination camp, not a concentration camp
Thanks. I often wonder if I am related to any famous "Williams".
I love this show🎉
I will never trust this fraud.
People are still going through this slavery is alive in the Muslim world
Although I am not famous I can trace my family back seven generations on all sides. Turners Coakley and Blanton, the Merritt’s is limited due to the direct European connection.
I found out that my grandfather is a distant cousin of King Charles and I’m a direct descendant of Rameses II and King David. That explains why I’m boogie 😂😂😂😂
Holy smoke, " you're African American. "
Fred Armisen looks a lot like his grandfather.
I really don't like this show because it seems like they always check to see if anyone in you past family owned slaves and then they expect an apology for something you had nothing to do with. I like the episode where the black celebrity found out his great great grandfather fought for the South. My roots include my grandmother telling me what it was like picking cotton all over the state and it doesn't bother me like it does other people.
This is one of my favorite shows.
Turns out ho's is not a new thing.
.
amazing how victim mentality is dished out in this documentary..
.
If you are from Poland, you are not a jew
You are just polish
REAL JEWS ARE BLACK
Ah “finding your roots” pbs the race baiters
Terry Crews story knocked me down then picked me up.
It told of a True Story of what dedication, endurance, and absolute resolve are.
My roots is planet earth
My ancestor lives in caves

Woman dont undress for money

I found out that I am the only male child of Cary Grant. I was close to his daughter very close and I brought her home to meet my parents and my mother was very nervous about that. Back when I was clean shaving I had 2 nearly retired actresses tell me that I look like a black Cary Grant.
Truthfully I really really enjoy the shows where a white person finds they have African or Black American blood in their ancestry. Sometimes you just know by their features and thick wavy hair. But can't be sure because of their attitude and life choices. When I see these types of reveals I feel a sense of relief. Not that it changes anything, but I do. I think some of them know or have that notion but don't want to learn the truth. If more of them found out for certain, I'm sure it would lead to more understanding, tolerance, and love among all of us now and in generations to come.
I cannot figure out why slaves would continue to bring children into that environment.
Crazy… Paternity that is in question it ALWAYS falls on the woman. WoW
Why did I think that was the “hawk tuah” girl in the thumbnail? 🤷♂️
Richard Hodges born in England in 1720 bond servant of Augustine Washington. There is a document Richard Hodges sold his land to Augustine the son of Augustine Washington.
I thought that was that hawk tuah girl 😂😂😂
What's the point of making a video this long (1:39:25) if some stories are repeated even three times (LL Cool J, Pharrell Williams) and several others twice?
The topic is interesting and important, and quantity shouldn't be forced.
It would have been funnier if it was Matt Damon who was related to Kimmel instead of Martha Stewart 😂
A lot of people who make the most noise about immigration, will find that they are technically undocumented themselves, if they would have this same service available to non celebs.
In the Spring of 1987, I had recently moved to Atlanta, GA. Not long after, my father sent me a yellow envelope with a note and two photos, one being my grandmother. Little did I realize the journey I would take decades later to answer questions about our family history.
People, it is absolutely paramount that everyone do this. The only way to know and understand real truth is to do what is hard, and what is hard is finding your roots.
Today, my search continues.
Why do you keep repeating the same people over and over just with different themes? There must be a lot more celebrities to choose from!
Cleaning my place cutting my hair shaving personal thgs
"A big old load?" How is it all about her?
It’s interesting to observe that African Americans often face societal pressure to suppress their emotions regarding their ancestors and historical experiences. While expressions of grief or connection to the past are accepted in other racial groups, African Americans are frequently told to move on, creating a stark contrast in how different cultures are permitted to process their history.
Can you imagine being removed from your home and being made to live in a small area of someone else’s choosing . That you will be made to travel a long distance and many of you will die on the journey . You think I’m talking about what happened in world war 2 no this is what America did to the original population the indigenous people , Native Americans . Just horrific i know we can’t right the wrongs of history but more programmes should show these injustices 😢
I love viola Davis she’s very intelligent one of those people I’d like to sit down to dinner with and just hear her talk .
Imagine being so happy to find out out your are 7% more one race than another 😂😂😂😂😂 These people are ridiculous
29:35…Like Steve Zorn . ( Composer , musician ,artist…) was never told of his ancestry, by his parents .
