  1. In this clip, Light wasn't revealing he knew Raye Penber was investigating him. He was simply showing L he was following along his train of thought and trying to finish him point for him.

  2. Considering he had a run in with Raye in the bus and Raye probably reported it, it's fair to say the slip up isn't as big as it first seems. It's reasonable that Light would realize he has been under investigation when he's told that Raye was investigating suspects.

  3. Nah, it seemed way more like "You're the first one I happened to have met, you're obviously Kira because I feel you might be lol"

  4. I'd argue that that's not a slip-up – it's a reasonable deduction. Say Light isn't Kira but still very smart. L just went out of nowhere to follow Light around. Then, when L tells Light that Penber died of suspicious conditions, Light could immediately assume that Penber was investigating him, because why else would L be so close to him?

  5. Im late, but also ofc L found out,L said that one of the people in the fbi team was named Raye Penber or what ever,L didnt say that raye was investigating light and that how did light know who raye penber was,ive been thinking that L knew it since when light said that.

  6. L could have won by stopping Light from touching the Death Note. He already suspected Light would have Kira’s powers returned to him somehow. When Higuchi is arrested he tells L the last piece of the puzzle, the existence of the Death Note. Instead L hastily asks to hold the Deathnote, and goes into a think tank allowing Light to take it. He should have immediately figured out to keep the Death Note as far away from Light as possible.

  7. I think SeththeProgrammer defined it best: Both Light and L, in a way, are way less about real justice and more about "winning the game". L's win condition was publicly proving that Light was Kira without a shadow of a doubt (as opposed to, say, just having Watari secretly kill him and burn the body) as well as figuring out how he did it. Light's win condition was just killing L without being caught or left without the Death Note. They're basically teasing and dancing around each other for opportunities to strike without overextending themselves.

Light's slip here isn't even that much of a slip. He basically made a leap of logic based on L's actions and words to him. It sounds (and was probably MEANT to be) way too accurate, but Light being the most intelligent guy in Japan could have reasonably made that deduction given the circumstances. L specifically mentioned Raye Penber, so Light jumped to the conclusion "If you're mentioning him specifically and the general type of person he was investigating, then I'll just drop the guess that he was investigating ME, and that's why you think I'm suspect". L has already brought Light into the fold, so to speak, so Light can speak any "assumptions" he wants about Kira's murders based on what L knows, and none of it will be factual evidence save if he outright said "I am Kira and I use a magic book of death to kill".
The whole "Yotsuba Arc" wasn't specifically to throw L off his trail; it was so Rem wouldn't kill him because Misa was locked-up and miserable. If Rem didn't care about Misa suffering, L would be stuck because Misa would never have talked, but Light would ALSO be stuck without an easy way of killing L (save, maybe, killing the entire taskforce, Watari and L in some contrived way even without L and Watari's real names, and then being forced to run away because someone might have known he was working for L and it would be too suspicious for him to be the sole survivor).

  8. This is not that good of a theory. Light simply made it as if he deduced that he was being investigated by Raye benper, which was logical based on previous episodes where light was a suspect. Context matters most

  9. This is the most ridiculously stupid video of all time. He made it look to L like he used his intuition to deduce that Raye Penber was his following fbi agent. There is nothing impossible about that, and it’s obvious that is why L was discussing it in the first place. You’re the reason most anime have to spell everything out for you😂

  10. I wouldnt say that Light going "and Penber was investigating me" given the context, is what increases his suspicion. There'd be no real reason to specifically mention Penber otherwise, especially when Light knows he is a suspect.

But Light going "I want to help out!" definitely raised his suspicion.

  11. I mean, it’s obvious L knew just off pure intuition. The problem is intuition doesn’t hold up in court. He needed serious evidence for spiritual existence and that it was Light’s doing. Or at least get him like how the IRS got Al Capone on tax evasion, if he can’t get him for murder he could have gotten him on something. Maybe tampering with evidence, obstructing a police investigation, or aiding and abetting.

  13. Dude I was watching this for the first time with my sister and I caught that and I went “Woah woah dude how the fuck you know” so this is incredibly satisfying despite her correction of me

  14. Imagine how interesting this anime would've been if they didn't show the viewers that light is kira and kept it mysterious. Then, we'd appreciate L even more

  15. Rewatching the anime rn and when this scene played it reminded me of this video, he straight up gave himself away which is so funny to think about whenever watching this scene.. though I’m guessing it’s not actual concrete evidence that Light is Kira.

  16. I guess what made Light do some mistakes early on is his superiority complex alongside the fact of the death note being an extra natural killing weapon that basically can not be traced

  17. I mean, L clearly says that the special agents were investigating people connected to the Japanese police, aka Light father's family. And since he was already suspecting Light to be Kira, Light just continued his thought, like: I see where you're going with this, I was among the ones under investigation. Not really a slip up, but I guess Light was still just among a handful of suspects, so It should've been done a long time ago. L just never had a concrete proof

  18. Light fit the very profile L had made of Kira while also having access to police databases. the investigator dies while investigating light paired the slip up in this video, L would have been 99% sure. After this it was about proving it.

  19. Both L and Light know Lights father is the chief of police. It wouldnt be that hard to deduce that Light was being investigated based off the information provided for him. I dont think this is what gave him away. This is simply L deducing if light could be Kira based off Lights competance, reactions, and deduction skills needed to be someone like Kira. It's far from a tell or slip up.

  20. while I do think L already knew Light was Kira. I think this moment isn’t actually very suspicious. Light has already expressed that he has good deductive reasoning, so coming to a conclusion based off info L gave him isnt unbelievable. when L first approached him he said “I suspect that you are Kira.” not instantly, but he says it in the same episode outside of the school. so at this moment Light knows L suspects him but he doesnt know WHY or HOW L suspects him. so when L explains they had FBI agents spying on certain people that all died, and 1 specific FBI agent, Raye Pember, showed unusual behaviors before death. all Light did here was express his deductive reasoning by being like “OHHHHH so THATS why Im a suspect. if your suspicions were raised by Raye Pember’s unusual behaviors then I can assume you’d focus on the people Raye himself investigated. so that means I (Light) had to have been one of the people he investigated if you decided to think of me as a suspect.” it wasn’t a slip up. just Light coming to a conclusion with the final puzzle pieces that L gave to him. and ofc he had to say his thoughts out loud because he’s already trying to express that he has a good mind. him showing intelligence and quick thinking was his way into the kira case

  21. ok but bringing raye up specifically after saying that fbi was investigating police families is a clue that light couldve been his target so idk

  22. They were already talking about his innocence it would only make since to guess the person L is talking about was after Light
