When their lab got hurt on a hike, this family had to carry him back for four miles!
Kai’s mom told us what she wish she’d known before taking him on this hike with her.

You didn't say how you'd prepare for a mishap next time.? What would you have done differently?
We can't take dogs on hikes, to many bears.
I had a chocolate labby!!lobby!!! They are great dogs!!!
Of the infinite number of "things I love about dogs" their ability to move on after a setback is very near the top. One of our pups had to have his gall bladder out and the vet said we may lose him. She was only preparing us for what might be, but said she would do all she could. He came through the surgery well, and when he got back here to his farm, you couldn't see him for dust! If you or I had undergone a major surgery, we would naturally take it easy for a couple of days when we first got home from the hospital. Dogs don't think that way. Yesterday I was sick, today I feel better. Let's run!
I am glad your pup is better and back to having fun. Stay safe everyone!
We lived in a neighborhood next to a college that had college housing, some woods, and a creek. It was a time when the neighbors let their dogs run loose. Our Golden came home with a cut paw. We did what we could for it. Any bandage we did came off. We soon learned she would go down to the creek and put it in the mud and made a mud pack on it. Over time it heal.
Yeah never get a dog you can't carry.
Your dog is so cute . It's very sweet you carried him down the mountain.
Do they make some kinda hiking mittens for them? Something with a light rubber pad
I was dog sitting for my parents and their dog was outside and somehow ripped a bit of skin off this hind leg and was bleeding for a bit. But he didn’t really act like he noticed except for when I tried to look at it or wipe it off. I was panicking but it was fine stopped bleeding quickly and wasn’t that big of a scratch. My parents knew he was a klutz that gets himself into dumb situations a lot so they were understanding of it. Still felt bad though, and still have no idea what he could’ve done that on in their backyard.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
One thing I learned from Boy Scouts…be prepared…
I love that u said ‘pet parent’ sounds so much more loving & family than owner or the like.

Back when I was hanging out with the punks at the Isar someone's dog got a cut on her paw from stepping on a glass shard (trying to prevent this is why the punks get mad at anyone who smashes beer bottles) and since I always have a med kit in my backpack I got that out and bandaged the paw, googled what painkillers are dog safe and gave her a light dose of novaminsulfon while the group did a little fundraiser among each other to send that dog to the vet. Dog owner later told me the vet said I could have given more painkiller but I am used to human doses and didn't want to overdose her.
Are there hiking boots for dogs?

Greater love hath no pet owner!
Dog boots. Also your dog is too heavy, needs to drop at least 10 lbs to be at a healthier weight.
I guess that's why people invented dog shoes…..
He looks exactly like my dog…. but younger!❤🐕
