In US news and current events today, a 3-month-old Australian cattle puppy got her head stuck in a spare wheel on January 22. Officers from Riverside County Animal Services (RCDAS) tried to slip the pup out of the wheel by lubricating her head with cooking oil, which RCDAS says is a commonly used tactic ‘when animals get stuck [in] precarious situations.’ But the cooking oil didn’t work because the puppy’s neck seemed to be swollen. The RCDAS officers then brought the puppy to its veterinary division, where she was sedated and calmed. Next, firefighters from the Riverside County Fire Department used a Sawzall to cut through the spare wheel, which gave the puppy enough space o wiggle her way out RCDAS says the puppy will be under observation until she’s returned to her owners.
