As you are no doubt aware, there have been bushfires raging in the eastern states of Australia since the beginning of Spring. At least 24 people have so far been killed – including three volunteer firefighters – and more than 6.3 million hectares (63,000 sq km or 15.6 million acres) of bush, forest and parks have been burned. It’s been estimated that 1.25 billion native animals have perished in these bushfires, including koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, echidnas and more. As many as 8,400 koalas have already perished in the fires in NSW alone, and these numbers continue to rise. Organizations around the world are raising funds to help all the lives (human and animal) affected by this crisis.

Fiberific will be donating 10% of all sales from today to the Animal Rescue Collective who are helping animals affected by this crisis.

We will also be hosting some “crafting bees” for local yarn crafters to come and hang out with us and help us make pouches for animals in need, with yarn and tools donated by Fiberific, ChiaoGoo and from our personal stashes. Please keep an eye on the Fiberific social media pages for details of these events.

  1. Great initiative to promote monetary donations Chantelle. I am all yarned up, but as you suggested I am crocheting joey pouches from my Yarn stash to donate to my local wildlife carers, and I made a cash donation to a West Aust'n wildlife carers group. Hope those who need to purchase yarn or tools visit your website as 1st port of call. ??

  2. Excellent explanations Chantelle!? Anxiety levels are definitely high for me & for Aussies everywhere!!? It's soooo hard to know what to do to help our fellow Aussies & wildlife!? I can't use wool, so I've decided giving financially is best, but I'm also designing a pattern I hope to complete soon to donate 100% to somewhere related to bushfire recovery…. still researching!? We each play out part to help our country.? Thank you for all you're doing.? Blessings from Adelaide.??

  3. I want to help but right now all I can offer is prayers. I don't have the materials or patterns for what is needed and afraid they won't get to me in time to get them made and sent back =( Please let me know how it works to be able to use donated materials to help.
