PETA discovered that a rabbit-breeding operation in Riverside County, California, had tried to sell off all its bunnies on the Internet. The breeders had been selling rabbits for fur, meat, and reptile food, and now they no longer wanted the business.

As is often the case with animals used by breeders, the rabbits were living outside in filthy feces-filled cages. Sitting on the wire cage bottoms caused sores and wounds to develop on their feet, and flies were swarming around them. One of the breeders admitted that the cages had not been cleaned in a year! The vulnerable rabbits had no escape from the filth, no grass, and no semblance of a real life.

PETA hopped to, working to get all the bunnies out of there. We moved quickly, as one of the bunnies was already lying dead inside a cage.

Our friends at the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA agreed to provide the animals with urgently needed veterinary care. The rabbits were suffering from various medical problems, including dental issues, overgrown claws, skin sores, hair loss, and respiratory problems.

  1. Thanks for rescuing them. I own a rabbit and I love rabbits. But I have no issue with people eating them and other animals as long are they are humanly raised. I believe you can respect an animal while still using it for food. Support humane local farms.

  2. tlive life like rabbits. okay just toss them in the wild. you dont want us to use their fur, not eat them, not pick them up but you also want us to spend thousands of dollars to keep them spoiled. imagine if a human had such demands. you want animals to have the same rights as humans then they should be treated like humans. just toss them in the wild

  3. This wasn’t just someone being ignorant about animal care and not knowing better, that was intentional neglect and abuse. All that suffering just so the 'breeder' could make money.

  4. My main breeding doe came from a rabbit farm like that place, but I was to young to understand that calling the animal control would have been the right thing and I still feel guilty years later
