I was on a river on the California/Nevada border and mosquitoes came out at dusk that were as big as may flies (usually mistaken for male mosquitoes). I had big puffy woolen socks on that they could get through so I escaped to my tent and sat there watching mosquito proboscises sticking through my tent all over at least a half inch in. I got the hell out of there the next day. Horrible!

While people are repulsed by the suggestion of giant spiders, and understandably frightened, as an arachnologist it fascinates me to think of an enormous fishing spider in this case. Heard of a huge arboreal weaver species living somewhere at the Pakistan-Indian border.

My friend was part of the Reservation just outside Chilliwack. She would tell me about the stories the natives had about the area. About the Giant Worms that lived in the lakes. And about how they would come out at night to steal people who were swimming.
Cultis Lake has a history of people going missing at night. My friend swears it's some kind of eel. She was on the dock late one night, with her feet in the water. Something told her "GET UP. MOVE." and she learned to trust those instincts. She was half way to the shore along the dock, when something slammed into it. She caught something that looked like a shiny black rubber hose, thicker than her leg, serpentineing in the water.
I have this theory that, much like Mexico, a lot of the rivers and lakes in BC are connected by underground cave systems. There was a tourist who went swimming in Cultis Lake; they found his body floating in a river in SASKATCHEWAN. So there's got to be some form of connection between the two. And something pulling these poor folks into the murky depths.
So yeah. My money is on Freshwater Lakes in BC housing some form of Nocturnal Eel Population.
She also told me about the football sized beetle she saw while ice-fishing. They bored their hole, and seconds after doing it, a massive Veracious Water Beetle crawled outta the hole. I didn't believe her. But………….. Now it's not the only large winter bug story I've heard. I did have a friend in highschool who claimed to see something skittering past their ice-fishing hole while they were out on a lake somewhere. I just thought he was lying. But….
There could be rather large and rarely documented insects out there. Hell, we got some poles shipped from China a few years ago, and some massive beetle like bug crawled outta the steel. Vibrant greens and oranges along this thing that looked like a big ass cockroach. Poor thing never stood a chance. 20 tradesmen with steel-toes, went after this aberrant abomination like it was a mouse in a farm house. *STOMP STOMP STOMP*

I live in Québec, southeast of Montréal, and my neighbour is Abenaki. Over the past decades, he has told me amazing stories handed down from his people. I live near Lake Memphremagog, a long, deep lake that has a 1/3 of its length in Vermont. Since the 1600s, the French have reported seeing a lake monster, similar to those seen in Lake Champlain and Loch Ness in Scotland. To this day, there are still sighings of the creature called Memphré, and there is a small rocky mountain that overlooks the lake. At the top is an ancient petroglyph carved into the mountain that warns of the lake creature. My neighbour and I had taken a hike, and he showed me the petroglyph. He said that we know that the White man says that the native people carved this warning, but it is not true. The ancient people, whom he said were gods, carved it. had put the warning… he told me that the native people knew of the ancient history before their people arrived (20,000 years ago) , and that these ancient peoples were from the stars. He said, " We are not believed, but that is the truth.
These rainbow worms remind me of an area in fort jones i was walking up a trail to a waterfall and in some rocks i saw what looked like a lizard but was shiny and color changing skin when i came close it looked like a finger then two more came out from under the rock i placed some grapes down and it took them my brother came up yelling for me and the "fingers" vanished

in Quebec the mosquitos are so big they just throw you on the ground before sticking their needles in your body and suck you dry, farmers hunt them because they sometimes kill their cows or horses. once they they suck a cow dry, they can’t fly cuz they get too heavy so the farmers can somehow chase them and shoot them with a 12 gauge shotgun.
