On this episode we are at one of Perth’s longest lasting businesses. American Auto Parts was started in 1971 by Vince and his wife Marion. And he started out in his shed out the back yard and built his first showroom and office. It was a part time business run along side of Vince’s towing business. Back in the beginning Vince started bringing Mustangs down to Perth from Exmouth. There was an American military base up there in the 60s and they brought there cars with them. Vince brought them and restored them and resold them. After he ran out of cars from Exmouth he got some contacts across Australia and started to by cars directly from an importer. through this Vince and 2 others started to manufacture hard to get parts for the XW XY falcons. So he imported cars, manufactured parts and was a distributer of Ford parts. Vince really threw himself into the motoring industry.
Vince’s son Paul was born in 1970 and its fair to say his interest in cars was inherited from Vince. Growing up he would get distracted from his homework wondering what was going on out in the shop. He remembers people turning up at all hours for various reasons. When he left school he did a mechanic apprenticeship at a Ford dealership. Paul never strayed far from the shop and business Vince had built. the 2 of them have built a number of cars over the years and Mustangs are their thing. Paul is a big part of American Auto Parts these days and you can tell he loves sharing his passion with his dad.

I reckon every 60s/70s mustang owner in Perth has bought at least something from Vince,I remember having to step over his massive dogs every time you went into his showroom at the back of his house.
He could always remember the car you had before you opened your mouth…..a very well respected gentleman in the automotive industry.
