A Mountie has died after a vehicle collision that occurred in Alberta’s Strathcona County early Monday, according to the RCMP.

In a news release issued shortly after 10 a.m., police said the crash occurred at about 2 a.m.

“The officer succumbed to their injuries,” the RCMP said.

At a news conference in Sherwood Park on Monday afternoon, Deputy Commissioner Curtis Zablocki identified the officer who died in the line of duty as Const. Harvinder (“Harvey”) Singh Dhami. Zablocki said Dhami was en route to a noise complaint call when the vehicle he was driving hit a concrete barrier.

“This is never the kind of news we want to share,” Zablocki said.

Dale Kendall, the Strathcona RCMP detachment commander, said Dhami is survived by his wife.

  1. Dead over a noise complaint.

Is this a loss of consciousness from fatigue or possible suicide or psychotic break? No seatbelt, 2am, head on at highspeed through a steel fence into a concrete block. A just about impossible series of avoidable events for supposed trained law enforcement.

Stormed past the upscale houses on the right side, assuming one was the subject of the noise complaint. An alert driver would never overlook and plow past.

I can't help suspect the guy just nodded off at the worst possible time, doomed from not buckled in.

  2. Forced corporate formalities.. reading from a script template. The last RCMP patrol car I saw was in such bad condition. If Trudeau govt can afford to send Aid to other nations why can't they give these guys better equipment and vehicles that aren't falling apart. RIP to the Officer prayers to the family

  3. They do this with our busses too. And big trucks.
I'm forever waiting for a bus that's been delayed due to these crashing them all the time. It's so frustrating.
