Nancy Ward, the governor’s new director of emergency services, warned of floods, landslides and power outages. “We expect this to be one of the most complex and destructive series of storms to hit California in the past five years.”
The National Weather Service said the thunderstorm pockets will bring scattered rain and possible thunderstorms to the region during the day and will gradually decrease.
A strong wind warning expired at 11:00 am, but gusty winds left significant damage.
The wind warning was still in effect for higher ground, where wind gusts were expected to continue in the 40 to 65 mph range, easing into the late morning.
