Honda Africa Twin 'Adventure Sports' Tested - The Best Africa Twin Yet?
Spread The Viralist

Honda added both off-road and touring features to the standard Africa Twin to create the CRF1000L2 Adventure Sports model, but did the improvements make it a better all-around adventure machine? We got some extended testing time on the Adventure Sports and gave it a thorough flogging over a variety of terrain and conditions to find out. We share our impressions of the bike and analyze whether the CRF1000L2 Adventure Sports takes the Africa Twin to the next level.

  1. One badass bike! After riding the 1100 version the 2018-19 ATAS will be collectors bikes down the road. The new ones got all the wiz-bang but its not as pure of the 2016-2019 versions.

  2. I’m planing to go around the world on a bike and I have 3 bikes in mind 1 African twin 2 bmw 1250 or Dr650 people are telling me to get the Dr650 they are saying there are parts all over the world and easy to fix and reliable….how reliable is the African twin?
How hard would be to fix the African twin?
The bmw I know it will be impossibleto find parts so I’m pretty much between African twin and DR650
Let me know what you all think

  3. Great review. I’m about to pick up a leftover 19. You definitely nailed the shortcomings.. weight, no cruise, no tubeless tires, no center stand. Still a fantastic bike!

  4. Great review! So the ATAS has higher clearance, more stock protection, and electronic adjustable suspension vs the standard model? I thought the ATAS was more for asphalt adventures but your review says it is also a very capable off road beast as well! Happy New Year!

  5. I could deal with the extra height, but that tank! I'd rather stop more often for fuel than deal with that overly wide tanker-truck between my legs. I can't image that much weight up so high…

  6. good review – honest – imo hurry up and put the cruise control on these already… and also put the cat inside the muffler like kawasaki do on my ZX14 (for obvious reasons) ; link the park brake by a hydraulic line to the rear main caliper ; one final thing, drop the fuel tank lower (CofG) down the sides like KTM … and hurry up

  7. Adding your own Crusie Control, Lower Seat and Centre Stand , still brings you in way under the competitors price wise. Im not paying an extra 7k for a stand and some cruise control.

  8. I own this bike.. it’s awesome..I run with sport bikes no problem at all.. it carves great .. don’t be afraid to push it.. the bike rewards you man.. this is coming from a former sport bike rider.. the center stand should be standard would be my biggest complaint..!

  9. Great job dudes! Some really cool scenes and the review is honest. The more I own the atas, the less conflicts I see though, just a cracking bike all around!!

  10. Nailed it with this review! Same issues I found with this model. I would've preferred it if Honda went full on with the off road improvements without the extra weight.
