#Lauda Air Flight 004 was a regularly scheduled flight from Bangkok, Thailand, to Vienna, Austria. On 26 May 1991, the thrust #reverser on the No.1 engine of the #Boeing #767-300ER deployed in flight uncommanded, causing the aircraft to enter an uncontrolled #dive. What happens in the following seconds could only be described as the sum of all fears.

  1. The looters should have been publicly shot as an example to others who would destroy an accident scene in the future

  2. These episodes are some of the most high quality content I have ever seen. Everything from the way you talk to the way the animations are made are on top of the world! There are movies from hollywood that could not match your quality. keep up the fantastic work and never stop what you are doing.

  3. Your videos are amazing and very inspiring and teaching at the same time thank you for that. Now, why are you not telling people that this tragedy should have NEVER happened, and you as well as myself know that Boeing has been lying about the controls on many of their aircraft, this is not the first time that The Boeing Corporation has willfully lied in their manuals. Do you recall the 737's tragedies and since the government will not do anything to control this lying Boeing I guess you and other pilots should stand up to lying Boeing and help with this problem. Now, how many lives have been lost just because they want to sell their defective airplanes at no matter the cost of innocent lives that are lost. None of these accidents should have ever happened and you know this is the true. I hope to hear from you on this matter. Thanks

  4. I was a child when this happened, but I remember our neighbour talking about him going on this Trip. He was a University Professor and suffered from a fear of flying. That's all too tragic…I also know someone who lost both parents in this horrible accident. All Austria was shocked and Niki Lauda himself was devastated..May those souls rest in Peace.

  5. My mom and dad were flying on this exact aircraft 1 week prior to the incident man oh man, so close and I wouldn't be here 😔

  6. I have a genuine question, not meant to demean you in any way : have you ever been in a crisis situation that put your skills and leadership to the test ?

  7. It really should be common knowledge these days that mega companies such as Boeing have a whole different angle of looking at things that require them spending their gigantic fortune as opposed to them selling aircrafts etc and making money. This is quite apparent when considering at what point does a 30,000feet fault require attention. Their issue is that if they were to acknowledge such fault, it's not just a single aircraft but every single one they produced with that set up. So they complete the test and model, why at lower speed and lower altitude? That should be obviously clear. STOP thinking these companies are any bit angelic or innocent! Mega fortunes aren't made by having those attributes ever! The model and test were completed and successful only because Boeing was allowed free range to make it so, similar to when there master test pilot was in the simulator with the same parameters after the incident, then stated the original pilots had 4-6 seconds to avoid the accident. What wasn't said or stated was if Boeing masterful pilot saved him self? If you for a minute think he had no trouble and righted the aircraft, I sincerely think you would be incorrect with that assumption. As truly it's what isn't said that's important, as the general rules of humanity don't apply here. Odd how the one part in question was taken from the crash site, don't you think? Then how it was returned later but tampered with so as to render any embedded fault non-existent! One guess for who possibly was involved there, that should be a given.
If enough greed is involved the issue of a fault being someones fault directly just like magic turns into innocence. It's happening so often most of us humans are completely blind to it and unfortunately no excuse is needed though if it were this behavior is just what they are after!
    TRUTH OR TRANCE

  8. Mentour Pilot, if your first pilot would say "reverser deployed", would not not instinctively idle all engines trust until further investigating what the issue is?

  9. My guess would be that the only way to remedy the situation would have been to cut power to both engines, turn around, and make an emergency landing, but I guess it was kinda too late at that point anyway.

  10. It's unlikely 0.99 was the highest value it could store. Computers work in bytes. A byte is 0-255 which in this case would be mach 0.00 to 2.55

  11. I'm a software engineer. As such, I have constant interest in fault prevention techniques, the industry calls that 'defensive programming'. And sometimes, aeronautics is cited as prime example, if not lode star for how to do it. That's just for context.

What I found curious is the connection to an accident just 2 years later during landing of LH 2904 in Okęcie International Airport, Warsaw, an Airbus A320-200. The conditions on allowing the reverse thrusters to be deployed seemed to be much tighter: not just had the two landing struts to take wight, the tires had to spin too, exceeding a certain velocity, so that the system would allow the thrust reversers to deploy.
Alas, in that landing situation, this developed into part of the cause for a crash during landing: the pilot anticipated sheer wind, but got tailwind. That lead to the second strut being put down to late, and also hydroplaning preventing the wheels to spin fast enough. So the reversers were deployed to late, causing the plane to overshoot the runway and crashing into an embankment, with one loosing his life on impact, and a second by asphyxiation through the ensuing fire.

I think of this as a constant reminder for the complexities of life and technical systems. What seems to be as sensible precaution in one situation, may turn out as a mistake in an other. Another example for that is the decision to lock the cockpit doors after 9/11. Seems sensible. But also made it easy for the suicidal co-pilot of Germanwings Flight 9525, to lock out his captain, when he went for a potty break. The captain was still banging at the door, when the copilot slammed the aircraft into a mountain, taking 149 lives with him.

  12. I can't imagine how scary this was to live through for the mere seconds after the reverser deployed. I was scared just watching it. I have no idea how it felt being on that flight as it tore itself apart.

  13. John 6:29 “Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.” Jesus of Nazareth, who was God in the flesh of a man, died for the remission of sin, including yours, was buried, and rose form the dead 3 days later. If you simply believe in this to apply to you and trust Jesus to save you from hell then you have everlasting life in heaven. Acts 16:31- "Believe in the lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved."
