Our European history is going to start around 1500 with the Renaissance, but believe it or not, that is not the actual beginning of history in the continent. So, today, we’re going to teach you the broad outlines of the so-called Middle Ages, and look at events like the Black Plague, the Hundred Years War, and the Western Schism of the Catholic Church that set the stage for the history of modern Europe.

Am I the only one watching it during COVID-19?
Who else came here just to listen from John Green…
So the plague started in Asia huh? GO FIGURE.
I know that there isnt really such a thing as a separate Europe and Asia but it would be cool if you guys did an Asian history series since it isnt talked about very much
Cant wait until the COVID19 virus is sold as a plushie
The Great Schism generally refers to the divide between the Catholic and Orthodox churches and not a pope fight – hence the word ‘great’.
Corona Virus lead me here
Arabic please 😭
Great video, albeit as most of the time, clearly told from an Anglo-Saxon perspective 😉
Hey John! I absolutely love this European History crash course. I've been bingeing it once again during the covid-19 outbreak. I was wondering though if crash course plans to do a crash course on the History of the Americas? I could never seem to find as much information on pre-colonial Native American and Mesoamerican history. Would love to binge through a crash course series like that one day!
Love how the graphics have improved over the years though they started off at a high bar anyway
Seems like the next thing that's on 2020's list is war because we already have instability and disease
Where is data coming from? Don’t get me wrong, this could be true, but there is very little that the Middle Ages ever happened.
If it did why aren’t there more records? Why aren’t there more places outside of Europe recording this information at this time? I’m just saying there’s still a lot of unanswered questions. Yet there are more videos on YouTube explaining how we know the Earth is round than there is explaining how we know what we know about the Middle Ages.
better way to learn in this time, i think
The video its so good
who else is doing school at home because if covid??
isn't it a bit odd to start European history in the middle?

1820:disease

2020:FRICKING CORONAVIRUS
Put the video on 1.25 or 1.5 if you want to go oldschool superspeed John Green
its funny that americans make fun of europe but seems to not realize they came from europe too.. i mean your ancestors are not born in america guys.. they are either british, french, or spanish, and maybe a few other countries aswell, otherwise you'd be native americans wich we used to call "indians" thanks to the spanish dude and yes, black american hate the "white man" for slavery but dont realize that arabs used them as slaves for 1000 years more than the white people. and still use as slaves today.. in arab, Abid is use to call black people and means "slaves" so yeah think about that
This is the guy that wrote the book that made me want to rip my heart out? (The Fault in Our Stars) Wow….
