Top 10 Towns Devastated by a Disasters

Wildfires, floods, hurricanes, volcanoes, etc. all have the potential to destroy a town or city. Today’s video is about towns in the United States that at some point were destroyed. Some were rebuilt and some have been long forgotten. Let me know which one you found the most interesting in the comment section below.
It doesn’t matter what state you are in, it gets some form of disaster every year. The United States has them all.

If you enjoy these videos I would love to hear about it. We look at the best and worst cities, states, towns, and neighborhoods in the United States. Occasionally we do other countries. Most of the time focus on the negative side of locations. That is just what people want to see.
If you only want some happy positive information about a city, town, or state, I would suggest looking up local mortgage and real estate companies or maybe the locations website. They are trying to sell you something so it will be nothing but sunshine, rainbows, and a bunch of smoke up your skirt.

They won’t tell you about crime, poverty, or the insurance you’ll need because of natural disasters. I will. And I will try and make it entertaining.

  1. The town I grew up in was kinda flooded when a dam was put in to supply power for ATL. I say kinda because people knew and some was flooded to make Lake Lanier. (There are huge towns now around the lake) If you go dive in the lake you can still find old farms, churches, and graveyards. They claim all the churches and stuff were relocated but they weren't. Now they claim it's haunted. My friends grandma moved their stuff back far enough not to be flooded. Ended up with lake front property. Fun facts about Lake Lanier in GA.

  2. I've taken Route 66 across the nation many tines and stayed at some of the coolest old motels and eaten at old fashioned restaurants. We've dine it countless times, it's always fun.

  3. Great video, here it is over a year later and I still ignore masks (doing great too🕊️) zinc, vitamin D and exercise just a little bit more than we usually do every day that's all ✌️

  4. I have some relatives that lived in Paradise when the Camp Fire burned down their town. My one cousin lost her house and business and her daughter lost the house she had just purchased. It was a beautiful town especially the little church where my cousin got married (gone), the hall where he had his wedding reception (gone). He actually passed away 5 years prior and his ashes were kept at his daughters new place when it was destroyed along with his ashes inside. My one cousin is rebuilding her business and home but her daughter is not. Both blame PG&E, but also blame California governor Newsom for bailing out PG&E and preventing the citizens from suing PG&E. It just so happens PG&E was a major donor to governor Newsom's election campaign.

  5. Florida Man here. I live in Melbourne about 1/2 hour from the Kennedy Space Center. KSC, Canaveral Air Force Station and the Merrot Island Wildlife Refuge were formed in the late 50s. In the process, towns such as Shiloh, Wilson, Allenhust and host of others were bought by the government and then ceased to exist. I visited the remains of Allenhurst located by the Haulover Canal. Very little is left of the buildings, but the streets still exist under lots of brush. Prett cool place

  6. Planning a vacation to San Juan, PR. They need all the help they can get as they haven't fully recovered. It’s a fantastic place to visit

  7. I am very suprised that you did not cover Peshtigo fire in Wisconsin. 2400 Where they where baked alive. Reports also stated that the peshtigo river was boiling in areas.

  8. Well Briggs, you did it again. I started watching one of your videos, only to transform into binge watching. Thanks! 🙂

  9. I grew up and lived in Paradise for 17 years, left a year before the fire happened. I've been back to visit a couple times since then to help my mom weed her now vacant lot (so she doesn't get in trouble with the town for having fire hazards on her property) and it was pretty surreal the first time to drive through these areas and neighborhoods I was very familiar with that were then reduced to rubble. Now they're mostly all vacant plots. I don't understand the people who want to move back there, but there were a lot of folks who were very attached to the town and yeah, there is a bunch of construction going on.

  10. The word $HIT was derived or invented by the explosion of ships carrying manure ,inside of ship. Was found out the vapor gas made explosions, thus the initials S.H.I.T………………….. .Ship High in Transit

  11. You forgot Cetralia, Love Canal. And Jonestown. My cousin and his wife were in Le Marque during the Texas City disaster. They said they though the world was ending that day. Wild stuff

  12. For your next town on this list. For your Part 2 video. Consider Greensburg, Kansas. In the 1990's a tornado more than a mile and a half wide hit the town. 95% of the town was destroyed in that storm. It has since been rebuilt. Now with large parts of it using wind and solar energy.

  13. I would love to see a video base solely on natural disasters. I can give quite a few recommendations if you want to research it for a potential future video @World According To Briggs

  14. Yikes…
#1 I was born in Portland Oregon during the Vanport Flood (Emanuel Hospital)
#2 I lived in Paradise CA (my parents & grandma who are buried there).
    Our houses are gone!
My grandma was in the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake & fire.
Feel pretty safe on the Frontrange Colorado as long as the Yellowstone Volcano doesn’t blow!
    Yikes!

  15. I was in the Campfire in Paradise Ca. PG&E has sent out warnings that week that due to the high winds they might shut the power off , they never did. To add to that their aged faulty equipment (they where more concerned about saving money than being safe) that failed and caused the spark than the high winds a perfect storm for a disaster was created. The town of Paradise was built in a way with lots of roads that dead end and only have one exit also the majority of the people that died were Senior Citizens who had no means of escape. A incredible tragedy especially as I know some of the people who lost their lives.

  16. Being submerged due to a dam-created reservoirs, is not, technically, a disaster. It was man-made and planned. While man-made disasters have happened, they aren’t generally “planned”, but are unexpected. (BayOcean, OR)

  17. My favorite piece was the Texas City disaster, because I watched a very well done video about it. I also liked the piece about Flagstaff Maine.

  18. Decimated means 1 of 10 destroyed. If the entire town was burned it would be more than 1 in 10. Not being a smart ass…just sayin
