  1. Please, always see the good in doves, they are so good creatures. They do not deserve to be seen as "rats of the sky", they are souls as all the other birds – as can be seen here!

  4. Pigeons are kicked out of their nest once they develop wings, it is common, most of the time they fly instantly.
Sometimes they land on ground and can't fly from ground.
Their parents encourage for a while, if no cats or dogs caught them they make it. Because pigeons don't have hands they can't pick them.
We raised pigeons and saw hundreds of them take flight throughout my childhood, 5hey nest in higher floors. Sometimes they land in our garden on 5heir first flight.

  5. I did the same, rescuing a displaced squab on a construction site, naming it ‘Gen’. I kept her in my field office, allowing her to fly within my personal office after hours as she fledged.
When I’d go home for the night, she had a nice large cage to rest in.
When I’d return in the early morning, she’d be ‘cooing’ me a greeting as I returned.
As she matured, she’d sit on my shoulder as I worked with my laptop…. & ‘coo’…. or hop on top of my large computer monitor & peck at the cursor if I moved it towards her on the screen.
After hours I’d walk the site before going home, & she’d ride on my shoulder…. & if I put her down & walked away, she’d swoop after me to get back on my shoulder…. to the astonishment of observing hard hats.
If I stretched out with my legs out to relax, she’d nestle between my legs & slumber.
I finally took her home, placing her cage by the patio door….. but I left her cage open to the open patio during the day.
Gradually she would fly off, but come back for food & the comfort & safety of her nest in the cage….. though ultimately joining a local flock…. visiting me less & less.
I learned a lot about pigeons because of her, like how much they like ‘bathing’…. which always got me laughing as she energetically splashed about ‘her bath’.
