Former Bank Robber Breaks Down 11 Bank Heists In Movies | How Real Is It?

Spread The Viralist

Former bank robber Cain Vincent Dyer looks at 11 bank-robbery scenes from popular TV shows and movies and rates them based on realism.
Dyer breaks down “Heat” (1995), “The Place Beyond the Pines” (2012), “The Dark Knight” (2008), “Cherry” (2021), “Den of Thieves” (2018), “Dog Day Afternoon” (1975), “Baby Driver” (2017), “Out of Sight” (1998), “Money Heist” (2017), “The Town” (2010), and “Inside Man” (2006).

Dyer served in the United States Marine Corps. He turned to bank robbery after threats to his family by a Mexican cartel. He was nicknamed the “kangaroo bandit,” having been captured on CCTV stuffing cash into a backpack worn on his chest. He says he robbed over 100 banks across California between 1999 and 2001. He eventually turned himself in and served nine years in prison after pleading guilty to six robberies. He now works as a life coach and motivational speaker, helping newly released prisoners reintegrate into society. He’s also a partner in two production companies.

  1. They have locks and cards to open but in my bank in my town don't even have security guards.. doors wher is money is regular door whit locks every employe can open… but police station is wery close.. if someone out of bank make call they are ther under 4 minutes.. that's only minus..

  2. Back in the 1970's my niece was hooked up with a young guy that started robbing banks in the San Francisco area…..this came to a halt when he came out with 9mm in hand after robbing a Wells Fargo bank, the cops were outside the doors waiting for him with their shotguns ready. My niece's friend startled, he started to raise his hand when a young cop pulled the trigger and hit friend in the right arm and shoulder….long story short, he did 5 years in San Quentin and lost the use of his right arm….true story

This was my second "relative" to do time in San Quentin…

  3. He actually didn't watch the full HEAT movie – he must have just watched that one scene. First, they addressed the mask situation because they cut into the camera feed computer the day before and set the cameras to go off before they even got there. Also – as for the silent alarm being set that isn't what got the cops to the bank. Again, they cut the silent alarm the day before (to not work while they were there). The cops got the tip from the other member of their crew (not really his fault but here we are). Just more FYI.

  4. The Heat movie bank robbery may have been real but the shootout afterwards was fake. Police would not risk engaging highly armed criminals like this in a very populated area. Law enforcement would follow them and attempt to arrest them and recovery the money in a much less risky scenario.

  5. Banks can have more than one entrance and be on a hill so would not have to go up steps for bus but right about bus being damaged crashing into a real bank.

  6. A poorly dressed old woman came to the bank and turned to the clerk:
    – I would like to open an account. But since I have a lot of money, I would like the director of the bank to do it.
    – And how much money do you have?

The old woman put the battered backpack on the table and opened the zipper. The backpack was full of money. The clerk went to get the director. When the director saw so much money, he asked the question:
    – Excuse me, but where did you get so much money?
    – And I play on a bet!
    – What bets?
    – Well … Here we bet twenty-five thousand dollars that your eggs are square!
    – Well, we argue! – the director of the bank smiled and held out his hand.
    – Oh no! Still, the amount is large. Tomorrow I'll be at your place with my lawyer at five to ten in the morning. To make everything legal at once!

In the evening, the bank's director took a bath at home, looked at himself in the mirror, just in case to make sure that everything was in order – you never know what happens in life. The next day at five to ten the old woman with the lawyer entered the door of the director's office.
    – Did you bring the money? – the director was delighted.
    – Oh sure! But you have to take off your pants and prove it! Do not be shy. Except for the three of us, no one will see this. The amount is solid!

The director, who had carefully examined himself at home in the morning again in the mirror, calmly pulled down his pants.
    – You see: everything is fine. Not square!
    – I have to touch them! – said the old woman, went to the director and took hold of his balls.
The director suddenly saw the lawyer's body slowly sliding down the wall.
    – What's the matter? The director asked the old woman.
    – He just lost a hundred thousand dollars to me now. I made a bet with him that at exactly ten o'clock I would hold the director of the national bank by the balls! – the old woman answered calmly.

  7. 2021/2022 are the best times to commit a robbery by yourself, you have to wear a mask, so if you wear some sunglasses, your face is concealed, which means if you wear a balaclava under them and wear a hood to hide the balaclava, you are completely unknown.

  8. Everyone always forgets about armed banks heist movies from decades ago, some from westerns. Bank robbery is not a new thing. Here's some of the movies that were overlooked.

    3000 MILES TO GRACELAND.
    BANDITS.
    BONNIE AND CLYDE.
BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID.
    DOG DAY AFTERNOON.
    FAST FIVE.
    HARD RAIN.
IN THE LINE OF DUTY: THE FBI MURDERS.
    THE LONG RIDERS.
    POINT BREAK.
    PUBLIC ENEMIES.
    SWAT.
    SWORDFISH.
    TRIPLE 9.
    THE WILD BUNCH.

  9. There's other movies about bank heists that gets overlooked.

    BONNIE AND CLYDE.
    DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE.

    POINT BREAK.
    PUBLIC ENEMIES.
    TAXI.

  10. Gotta point out that the bank in the dark Knight is supposed to be a “mob bank” so the guy with the shotgun is a mob associate
