Climate deal “falls short” as China and India block end to coal power – BBC News

Spread The Viralist

World leaders and environmental experts have welcomed a UN climate deal that for the first time targets fossil fuel as the key driver of global warming. However many expressed disappointment with the agreement and warned that the world was still on course for disastrous warming.

The summit reached deadlock over coal power after India and China blocked a call for it to be completely phased out. Instead the summit could only agree that it would be “phased down”.

The UK, which hosted the summit, hailed the deal as a “game-changing agreement”. But critics warned that it does not deliver the key summit goal of limiting global warming to 1.5C by the end of the century.

The summit did agree to provide money for poorer countries to help them adapt to climate change, as well as curbs to methane emissions and deforestation.

  1. Looks like the western nations just want the poor nations to not grow by cutting their ability to get affordable energy thus keeping them poor and allowing them to be taken advantage of which western nations have a history of doing case in point colonialism so i think it's great poor nations are saying "heck no we won't live eating grass while you eat meat"

  2. Ur dummies audience will buy the cooling towers as chimneys? 0:00 on picture 6 cooling tower evaporating water – and no one visible chimney.
Probably even BBC magnadement do not see any BBS in those pictures.

  3. The West started industrial revolution contributing massively contributed to Climate change and now demanding developing nations to cut back to slow climate change.

  4. What people don't understand is using coal for india and china is a necessity while that of uk and usa is merely an option. But still they don't blame them.

  5. The UK was one of the countries that started the industrial revolution, which made them rich and directly caused the climate crises these days. It is really hypocritical for the UK and similar countries to blame the developing countries, which had been robbed so badly by the rich countries

  6. I think there are more strategy should be adopted, not only urging China and India. Developed countries should share more technics against climate change or they should invest more money to help the world better in dealing with climate issues.

  7. Australia has the highest coal emissions per capita and also refused to sign as did the US. Why are you only naming and shaming China and India?

  8. India needs to be given energy alternatives (primarily nuclear) if they have this then they will be able to phase out coal. But solar and wind can't cover the energy needs of over a billion people. Not until the technology improves

  9. Stop blaming on india u morons…just look at ur per capita emission and fossil fuel share then talk with us
And dont talk about morality here…it looks dirty on ur face

  10. It's only the rich 1% deforesting the rain forest to furnish their boats, banks and paedo dungeons.

Why can't they use pine from a farm like every one else?

Burn the rich, there good for no one.

  11. Imagine the Entire Worlds Pretend Shocked Face, Knowing This Is EXACTLY How It Was Meant To Play Out Before The " Summit " Started…. 😂🤦🏽‍♂️👌

  12. Western hipocrits! The British Empire & Europe have been polluting the planet for around 250 years, yet they urge India and China for an immediate solution. Shameful.

  13. If the united nations for climate change are failed to implement the zero emmisions for the coming years, make a alternative solution not totally solution for climate change. like what the bible says in Mathew 7:13
